96 Cobra - 305hp and needs at least 4.30's to even utilize the power.
05+ Mustang - 300hp with more usable low-mid range power and better overall refinement refinement throughout the car.

I don't understand why anyone would even consider a 13 year old Cobra. This is a no brainer.

because the gt looks boring and everyone and there mother has one^^^^^^

yea and because no one has an SN95 Cobra despite how Ford manufactured 28,705 of them. I think it's now safe to say that there is nothing unique about an SN95 Cobra. I feel sorry for you if your only foundation for wanting to purchase a car that is many times more inferior is because you think everyone and their mother has the better car. Let me clue you in on something, you are not an original by owning an SN95 Cobra

seriously?
I swear i see 28,705 s197 GTs EVERY day..
and GTs look exactly the same as a regular mustang..I say if you get a s197 just get a six banger, no point in wasting the extra money and mileage, especially since you already have a Cobra

For the money you would spend on the 2500 mile cobra, I would either get a good deal on a Terminator...or just buy another sn95 Cobra that already has some mileage and 'go fast' mods for under $10,000

just my honest opinion, its your money, and your wish to blow it however much you want captain

4v all the way man. The new 05+ Gt's are nice and all, but honestly I did not care for the interiors in the new ones(rode in a gt500) and who cares how minimal the difference in ride will be, it's a mustang after all, it's supposed to be a little rough around the edges.

but yeah, I wouldn't pay 18k for that 4v because of the low miles, since you will make it a DD. Find another one, half the price with medium miles and DD that. Plus with the cash you will save you can even add a few things to it if you like.

i test drove one once. it felt pretty nice. Each are listed around 17995. I am sure both can be talked down.

I overlooked this post. Didn't realize that the '96 Cobra was listed for 18k. If you buy that '96 Cobra for $18k then I feel sorry for you. That Cobra isn't worth anywhere near that amount of money, I don't care how many miles are on it. There is nothing special about a '96 Cobra. There is nothing rare about a 96 Cobra. I had a '96 Mystic with immaculate paint, body, and interior. It only had 36k miles on it when I sold it. I couldn't even get $11k for the car and it took me about half a year just to be able to sell it. Granted 36k miles is a lot more than 2500 miles but still, I'll bet you my '96 Mystic was just as immaculate as this $18k '96 Cobra you're thinking about buying.

Trust me, the owner of that Cobra will never be able to sell it for the price he's asking for. Cobra owners make me laugh. It's as if they all think that they are sitting on gold or something. The only Cobra I'd pay anywhere remotely close to $18k for is a Terminator; now those ARE something special.

A car is only as special as it is to the owner or what ever that statement is.

To the OP, the 96 Cobra will be cheaper on insurance . . . if insurance is a problem to your funds . . .

But seriously though, for 18K i'd get a terminator.

I mean really? Are you honestly saying the 2006 gt looks just like the v6 yet fail to mention how similar the 96 cobra looks to the 96 gt (and in turn the v6 model)?

I guess maybe where some of you guys are from 96 cobras turn heads but I can say I never personally turned my head to see one. The 05+ gt is better in every way, just like it is better than my car. If I had a 93 cobra I would still think the 05 mustang is better even though 93 cobras are rare.

Rare doesn't automatically mean better. If it is a daily driver (and it seems it is) it should be no contest for the 2006 mustang. Even if you planned to mod both of them I would still choose the 2006 mustang.

Sure the Cobra has low miles but you'll be DDing it. That would kill any value that it might have had due to the low miles.

Get the GT or an 03/04.

most SN95 owners i've met are VERY down to earth, and more then well aware that they're NOT "sitting on gold". Most of them take pride in their cars, and don't have to put them in car shows or walk around with an undeserved sense of self accomplishment to feel proud of owning one.

The value of my vert may be just teetering around $10K, but it's sentimental value to me isn't even comparable. Ever talked to an old man who never shuts up about his "first car he wished he'd never sold"? Pretty sure that back then, they were all saying the same thing to him...sell it, it's nothing great. Heck, it may not have ever amounted to more then a hill of beans in value, but to him, he'd almost give anything to have it back.

To MANY people, value isn't viewed as a money sign. In all honesty, most people that truly value their cars the most don't even care what their blue book value is.

As for the terminators...i used to really want to buy one, but couldn't push myself to pay almost $30K for a Mustang with 30K miles, out of warranty...especially when i've got a Cobra already, paid off (the BEST kind of car), which lacks an eaton and IRS. My love for Ford runs pretty deep, but at that price, getting something more sport-car oriented, such as as beautiful low-mileage C5 vette seems like it would be a better "investment" if you're really all about the holding value of a car.
