Are the TPMS sensors different on '10-'11 cars??

Well, I can answer my own post. Found it on another site but in case this comes up for any of you...
You cannot use your '09 and earlier "band style" sensors on a '10+ model. Ford has switched to a sensor that is integrated into the valve stem. So those bands are useless on new cars. Sorry of this has been covered here already, but I couldn't find it searching...

This is what replaces the band style system:

They sensor will unbolt off of the valve stem. Just use a small torx bit screw driver. Then you can buy just a new valve stem and transfer the sensor.

The 2010 and 2011 Mustang GT500 (among other Ford vehicles) use what is called a "snap-in" sensor, supplied by Schrader USA. They utilize 16 bit architecture.

The previous ('07-'09 GT500) utilized Ford's banded sensor, manufactured by Lear. It utilized 8 bit architecture.

Both sensors operate at 315 mhz. The issue is that the smart junction box (SJB/PCM) will only receive/analyze the "proper" corresponding signal. Hence, you must use the right sensor. You can't retrain the wrong type to work in its place.

I spoke with engineers from Schrader about our specific issue. Note in the first link that there is mention of their upcoming "EZ-Sensor", a programmable snap-in style that would be able to communicate with the SJB that was paired with a banded sensor. I was told that at the earliest they may be available this November/December, and for import applications first.:fm:

So in the meantime...you have to use the right sensor, ie switching the snap-ins for banded sensors when using a set of OE 2010 wheels/tires on a '07-'09 (and vice-versa). You can thank the Exploder/Firestone/NHTSA debacle for this crap...

What's funny is how many retards I see with FLAT (not low; FLAT) tires running around and yet they don't stop; they ignore the idiot light and any other in-dash warning they think is pretty decoration and just keep driving.

So we all pay for it and have the nuisance of it, yet the same retards that didn't check their pressures before, still do not nor do they yield to the warnings.

More mandated bullshit.

Just wait until the latest "integrated brake control" is mandated, thanks to the Toyota debacle. Brake burnouts will be a thing of the past...

I made this post because I picked up a 2010 GT500 on Saturday, and when I took my CCW's off the '08, I re-trained the '08 back to the stock wheels no problem. When I put the CCW's on my '10, I kept trying to retrain them and no joy. Here I figured I was all set, you know? I tried 4 different times, shut off my cell phone, moved the car away from the house, etc. Then I thought "there must be some difference in the computers and this tool I have is no good for this car"
Little did I know it wasn't the tool, it's the sensors themselves.

So consider this an SVTP "Public Service Announcement" :)

No different than Stab. control being mandated because the walking public is too inept to learn how to actually control a vehicle. And we won't be able to fully-disable it.

Guess I'll start building Fox bodies and street rods when that happens. (If they don't all get crushed or something).

Greg: Excellent public service announcement
