Voyage Data Recorder.. This records data from VHF radios, Bridge Microphones, Bridge Controls (propulsion, steering, positioning systems), and other automation data systems. All of this information is collected to a central core module, then the data is submitted and recorded to the final...
Helm is the Bridge, primary control location. There would be Wing Stations port and stbd, local controls for propulsion in the ECR (Engine Order Telegraph communication), and local/emergency steering control in the steering gear room/flat.
Where ever the Master and the Pilot were controlling...
This vessel is classed with NK (ClassNK), which I have not been impressed with in the past. They are not as thorough or stringent with the Rules applications that I experience with ABS, LR, and DNV.
This situation with the VDR is abnormal. The VDR and contributing systems that provide the...
The heavy lift vessels are awesome. I had one project where we shipped a couple dump scows, two mechanical dredgers, and the auxiliary/support barges to Australia to support the Wheatstone LNG project. The coordination for those efforts are impressive.
I enjoyed working with those MHCs and...
I have, I managed three of the drydockings for the TS Kennedy and the MARAD Port Engineer for that vessel is good friend of mine. Most of my visits to Mass are either to Buzzards Bay, Woods Hole (for NOAA and Oceanographic Institute), and South Boston (drydocks and the cruise ship terminal)...
My background is mechanical and marine engineering with a concentration on nuclear, the first eight years were with A4Ws and S6Gs, so Bubbleheads and Nukes from the start. I am not a licensed mariner, but I have either managed the design, managed the construction, or managed the overhaul/repair...

She has 5 generators onboard with +20K kVA. I am...
I had this issue with the Husky liner for my Explorer cargo area. I used a couple of the 1" x 1" hook and loop squares that have adhesive on the back side, and stuck them to the bottom of the liner. It keeps the liner from moving, and still permits me to remove the liner when I need to.
Visions of Margin Call/ Sam Water's fire sale when all of the other firms realize what is happening come to mind.
Your summary of events starting from Thursday, and referencing the conference calls brought back memories of the 4 AM BoD meeting with John Tuld. Especially the reference to close...
For mobile/traveling requirements, I have two Flips that I pair to cover a larger area. I do not watch much TV, so when I am in hotels, I set up my poor man's surround sound when I am working to stream music. They have worked well for me over the past year or so.
I had the Boombox previously...
I was a temporary resident of Panama City Beach for five years (2013-2018, Pre-Hurricane Michael), and I lived at Marina Landing at the foot of the Hathaway Bridge. PCB was an absolute disaster from May until September. Traffic was terrible, and there were not enough service industry people to...
