Hello all, I'm looking to get a better 60 foot time at the track next year and thinking of relocating my battery to the trunk. My thoughts are to put the battery directly above the rear axle but I see a lot of people putting them further back and to the left or right. Wouldn't it be best directly above the axle and on the drivers side to help propel the car forward when launching? any thoughts especially from those that have done a relocation would be great thanks! M.

Exact placement in the trunk isn't going to make a huge difference. Just getting it to the rear is the biggest part. Keep in mind you will need to install a cutoff switch outside the car that kills it, which means you'll not only need to kill battery power but you'll also need to kill the alternator. You'll either need a double throw kill switch that kills the phase wire to the alternator or run the charging cable all the way back to the trunk to the battery side of the switch.

Thanks Rotor, this is great stuff to know! i wonder if the track guys will let me run it without all that stuff as it is still a street car with an ignition switch. Also during tech, the track officials have never checked my trunk. They just look at me ,then the car then assign a number on my windshield.

NHRA rules state that if the battery is in the trunk then you have to have an external kill switch. Whether or not you'll get checked at every track or every time at the same track is unknown, but if they do check you won't be allowed to run.

I did it, it takes 30 # off front right of car and adds 60 # over right rear if in right rear corner , we did this while we were scaling the car out on 4 separate scales , but where the battery is located on our cars it doesn't affect 60 times like you would think, I've put mine back since to factory location same or better 60 foots , go figure

Very well, I wouldn't want to take the trek only to be denied or take that chance. thanks.

Interesting, there are times when I have some weight in the trunk like a cooler full of drinks and I can actually feel some more traction.
