As most of us know, Michelin and Continental are dropping their new and improved UHP tires. Tire rack already has them on the website and are taking orders.
Here's a screen shot of the two tires priced out. Tires priced were 285/35 R20.

Funny you posted this, I was just looking at tires and trying to figure out what the hell tire I should choose that would be the "upgrade" to my Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Is the "Pilot Sport 4S" the one?

That's definitely the one. I'm in the market for some tires myself and wanted to hear some reviews of these two vs each other. But for the slight price difference, looks like I'll probably be going with the 4s unless some legit evidence comes out stating the Continentals are a better tire. Pretty doubtful.

Just checked out Tire Rack... this gives me a bit of pause on these 4S tires... reminds me of the Goodyear issue with the 2013 tires cracking.

Note: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

I'm pretty sure the same can be said about the MPSS

I looked it up on Tire Rack they don't have the same notification.

I've also had my MPSS for over a year and have had several below freezing days and not a single crack.

Holy crap. The cost of the new Continental's over the old DW is $60 per front tire and $50 per rear. That is straight crap. Looks like the advantage the DW had over the PSS is out the window. I'll be buying the Michelins.

Had BFG sport comps previously. I found the Continental DW to be a better tire. I haven't tried the sport comp 2's though.

Ive been very impressed with the Comp-2 A/S. With all the rain out here in San Diego recently ive had a chance to test em out. Still useless from a dig but they hold well 2nd + in dry, and have not once felt hydroplaning in the rain.

For a summer tire? Got me on that. But CA experiences a lot of cool weather for most of the year. The AS compounds have really come a long way and should be given aome consideration as a street tire.

I will probably be purchasing one of these two tires for the rear of my car within a week or so. Anybody have any reviews on them (I know they are pretty new)

There's a channel on youtube called tyrereviews that compared the new PS4 that's replacing the PSS to the new continentals. They use BMW's and focus more on handling performance than dry acceleration grip. They say the PS4's out shine the continentals in all but one category (comfort) and improve's in all area's over the PSS's with higher grip compound and re-engineered core. But the price will reflect that as well.

How many of you guys are running squared set ups? Thinking about doing it when I get some tires to take advantage of the 30k mile warranty. 285 all around.

Been doing some research and it seems like the Michelin Sport Cup tires that came on the new Z06 have the same cracking issues as the Good Year tires that came on the 2013... i.e. they crack in freezing temperatures.

The Pilot Sport 4s, on Tire Rack, has a warning about cracking.

I think I'm going to try and find some MPSS since we sometimes see freezing temps

Yeah, i keep my Sport Cup 2 tires in my basement during the off season. They will definitely crack. Pretty sure Michelin has a warning somewhere on their website.

Yeah, I'm torn at the moment. Keep going back and fourth between tires. It does freeze where I live, so that is definitely a concern as well. I just find it hard to go with a "older model" like the mpss and not get the new version.

I might have to do the same and just switch out tires when it's starts getting cold.

Well, it's not like the MPSS is suddenly a bad tire just because a new one came out.

We all know the MPSS isn't a bad tire. Has anybody had any issues with the tires cracking at freezing temps?
