I live in the snow country and made the switch to actual snow tires (Not a MT or AT) when my new Toyo MT's weren't able to stop my truck when driving down my compacted snow covered street because the plow didn't drop the blade all the way down causing that 1.5" layer to harden up. The large MT tread blocks just acted like hockey pucks sliding on the compacted snow. I liked the Toyo MT's because I could get 40k miles on a set vs 25k for BFG AT which perform better in the snow.

So after sliding into a neighbors front yard and breaking my side view mirror on a street sign I decided that I was going to get the largest size, E load rating (cuz its a HD diesel) stud-able option snow tires. I ended up going with General Artic LT in 285/70/17 from Tire Rack (33" equivalent with no studs installed)

Talk about a night and day performance! I am now able to jam on the brakes as hard as possible when driving down steep compacted snow/ ice covered streets and have it come to a quick stop. Its so nice to feel safe when driving with my family in the snow. I now use my 35" Toyo MT's as Summer tires and switch to these General's in the winter. They may not look as cool as 35" MT's but at least I can keep my family safe when the roads turn to shit.

2011 3.5 Ecoboost SuperCrew 6.5' bed.

BFG K02 (33") and couldn't be happier. They are quiet on the highway and decent in the snow. Still need sand-bags in the bed.
