Hi everyone. I just bought a 1998 cobra. Its my first overhead cam mustang i used to have a 91 gt. Im very happy with my purchase and i just have a few questions because ive never owned a car like this. Thanks.

List of mods:
Paxton Novi 1000
Long tubes
Off road x pipe

Here are my questions:

1. I cant find a novi 1k for this model mustang on paxtons website, only the novi 2000. Is this blower not made for this car anymore?

2. How can i adjust the boost? I have a Bama tuner and the software was remapped and customized. Do i simply change to a different tune on my bama tuner? It currently is only pushing 5 psi but id like to up it to 8-10.The fuel system was upgraded with larger injectors and fuel pump. Is it a simple adjustment for the boost or do i need to go to a professional?

Thanks a lot for any feedback.

You need to change the blower pulley to a smaller one. Go and see a custom tuner as well. my other recommendation would be to keep it at 5psi, if you want the engine to live a long and happy live..

The Novi 1k is a old blower that is no longer made. It's pretty much a old school Vortech S-trim.

Thanks so much for the reply. Since that blower is not made anymore do they even make smaller pullies for it anymore? Car is currently putting down 393.12 to the tire. I have the dyno sheet. Id like to put down 450 or so for an even 500 at the crank. Car runs hard, real hard but power is more addicting than ciggarettes!

Yes they still make pulley's for it. I would give Vortech a call and they will set you up on a new pulley. It should be a 6 rib setup.

I understand more than most how addicting power is lol. 400rwhp is pretty decent, but again unless you have money set aside for a built engine I would maybe 8psi and that's it.. And that's at peak RPM. If you want to go faster or quicker, start adding gears to it.. Throw some 4.30's in the back and you'll be very very happy..

Changing the gears in my 98 made it a whole different car. And I'm still N/A. Especially if it had the factory gears in still. I went with 4.10s tho so I can still drive it somewhat normal. About 2800 rpm at 70

I'm glad you said this since I want to gain that extra power feel, but I didnt want to lose my 5th gear fuel economy since I live in Florida, everything is highway driving.

I was set on 4.10's until I saw this. I might have to look into 3.73's now.

I had a 97 with a Vortech V1. My intention was to go down one size pulley on the blower and one size bigger on the lower. It was running 6 to 8 psi. That car made 401rwhp and I was told by my tuner that the above combo would get me somewhere near 450\465. That car had 373s in it and was real fun to drive, also had a forged bottom end, The B heads loved the boost.

i currently am running 4.10s. Very happy with them. Fuel economy is actually amazing for how powerful the the car is. At least when your cruising.

Now a quick question for you guys, is there a way of telling if you have upgraded gears already?

Yes, take the cover off, count the ring teeth and pinion teeth and divide. That, or jack your rear in the air and count driveshaft revolutions compared to tire revolutions. Or look up a gear table and see what RPM you should be at at a given speed and see what gear ratio you fall into. The most accurate way is to remove the diff cover.

If you just bought it I would highly recommend you pull the diff cover if you can without much trouble. My stock gears where on there last leg when I checked and kept me from ending up on the side of the road
