Goal is/was to perform weight reduction modifications on my 2007 GT500 to maximize performance at the drag strip. These are awesome cars and want to have the ability to easily reinstall all items if so desired. Realize that weight reduction is not for everybody, but wanted to provide accurate information for those that may be interested. All weighing was performed on a certified Befour commercial scale.

2007 GT500 WEIGHT REDUCTION LOGISTICS

Permanent Weight Reduction
OEM rear axle dampeners..............-9.3 lbs
J&M Extreme LCA's (2)..................-5.2 lbs (OEM=6.5 each, J&M Ext=3.9 each)

DSS aluminum driveshaft..............-20.3 lbs (OEM=39.3, DSS alum=19.1)

OEM 08' harmonic balancer...........-11.4 lbs (OEM=21.3 lbs, 08' balancer=9.9)
BMR radiator support brace...........-7.7 lbs (OEM = 17.0 lbs, BMR = 9.3 lbs)
Wiper reservoir/fluid Removal........-8.5 lbs
Total..........................................-80.8lbs

Track Only Weight Reduction

Race Stars 15 x 10" w/ MT ET Drags.............-34.4lbs

Total.....................................................+16.7 lbs

2007 GT500 Curb Weight............................=3,920 lbs (w/ full tank gas)
Total Weight Reduction...............................-366.0 lbs
Total Weight Additions................................+16.7 lbs
Driver Weight............................................+250 lbs
Race Weight...........................................=3,820.70 lbs

Notes:
- Race Stars are HEAVY! My 03' front skinny setup consisted of 15" Bogart D-10's w/ MT ET Fronts and weighed 23.2 lbs each. The 17" Racestars w/ M&H 28's weigh in at a whopping 34.9 lbs! A better/lighter front skinny setup could save more weight here in the critical area (the front!). The rear Racesar setup is not as big a difference with a 41.9 lb weight compared to the 03' Cobra Bogart D10 w/ Hoosier setup of 36.4 lbs.
- Although the rear seats are very modest reductions, they are super easy to remove. Two hand operated clips for the bottom section, and two bolts for the back section. Passenger seat is the standard 4 bolts. Reduction of 73.3 lbs for the group.
- The BMR radiator support brace provides significant reduction in an optimal location: the extreme front of the car. Especially when you remove the front sway bar.
- Ditto for the windshield wiper fluid. Located in the passenger side bumper in front of the tire. Easy to remove the fluid, easy to put it back in.
- Fluid weights: Coolant = 8.2 lbs per gallon, gasoline = 6.2 lbs per gallon.
- Have yet to race with any seats removed. And have not removed trunk contents the last two times at the track. With my basically stock suspension, car seems to launch better with more weight in the rear and is less squirrely going down the track.

Well, literally stumbled upon the fact that there is a calibrated Drive on farm scale where I work. Put the GT500 on there yesterday to compare real weight vs. the estimated weight listed on the first post of this thread. The result? Less than 1 pound difference!! Gotta be some blind luck involved here!

First time I weighed my car was at Tucson raceway. Shade over 4k lbs with me in it. Good to know all this and will reference it in the future.

@IronTerp do you have the BMR support brace with OR without the sway bar mount? I know some guys run full time without the front sway bar. Im kinda iffy on wanting to run on the street without one.

Great post, were you able to test the weight savings at the Track ?
Well, kind of in a reverse way. Was having trouble with traction and squirreliness at the track and actually left the “junk in the trunk”, and kept the sway bar on which equaled 88.2 lbs. Car responded better and went from 11.30’s to 10.90’s, but had also added an off road H pipe, VMP triple pass w/ fans, and MGW shifter. Plus big DA improvement. So back to square 1. Next time at the track will remove this 88.2 and see what happens.

With sway bar mount. Run the sway bar on the street, just generally remove it for the drag strip.
