The day the Mustang almost became a “rice burner”

I remember when Mustang Monthly (I think that was the name) magazine had printed a pre-written letter to Ford so you could rip it, out sign it, and mail it to them. You were basically begging them not to make the Probe the new Mustang

My first new car was a special order only 86 LX 5.0 coupe... at that time the rumor was there would be no more V8 rwd mustangs by 1989. Thankfully due to enthusiasts rallying together saved the rwd Mustang.
The question is... would they do the same today?

I was junior back in high school, that was the worst news/rumor ever when I seen that 89 Prob on the front page of R&T. I ended up buying a 88GT new and eventually a 90GT Probe which I enjoyed but it was no Mustang.

I have become a fan of the Mustang II in recent years. It's a terrible car right off of the showroom floor, but one of the few classic mustangs that I would not see a problem with modifying to become a pocket rocket.

I totally would rock one of these after I completed Coyote transplant. When done right, they are sexy as hell.
