What I had Mac LH's Mac o/r H, flowermaster mufflers that did a 360 inside and came out the side in to a Roush tip. The muffler blow apart, to much power flowermaster said because it had to do a 360 turn. I had it on the car for like ten years though, plus they do not make that muffler anymore.

So last summer I still wanted the side exhaust but you do not have the length to run a muffler and come out the side with a normal muffler like we are all used to with an h pipe. So what I did, I have the Mac LH's, 4" of pipe and flowermasters outlaw racing muffler, about 24" of pipe, then a resonator and then the Roush tip. It's crazy loud, It sounds like a Ac cobra kit car. It makes my ears bleed loud. I can't hear the sc or anything. You can hear the her from over 1 mile away when I'm on it!! Pretty much sounds like open headers. Sounds fine at light throttle. Anyway the mufflers are where the stock cats go. So Is there a baffled muffler out there that is small and round to fit in that space and that will quiet it down some. Not shore even running the a muffler that close to the headers is a good idea and no having a mid pipe.

Other option, Go and buy a Mac o/r prochamber with there Mac dumps exhaust. Keep the side exhaust skirt and tip for now. I do not have my old side skirts and the cobra ones are crazy money now for used once that need to be painted.

Any input would be great.

Side exhaust is fun to have and makes its own unique sound. My buddy and i enjoyed it on his '01 L by throwing sound waves off houses and cars. (this was when the blown lightnings first came out and we were in high school. Dont judge us too harshly haha).

For the stangs the options are limited it sounds like. whatever you choose, i strongly vote for using some sort of crossover pipe.

I think you meant 180 degree turn inside. A 360 would have it going all the way around. Have you looked into other muffler brands? I want to say Spintech has the 180 style muffler. But that was a while ago. One guy I knew with a Roush had whatever 180 style mufflers that came on the car and then had a pair of short glasspack style mufflers welded into the H pipe. He was trying to meet a dB level at racing though.

Edit: Here. Maybe you can get just the mufflers.

Hey guys update, called and talked all of them, they are all rated 500 to 600hp max, that's why I blow them out.

So I said no more side exhaust.

So I went with flowmaster thunder dumps and a off road h pipe. It sound so muffled I hate it! I was going to try flowmaster 10s.

Any input on muffler with dumps?

Borla XR-1, Borla Pro XS, or Walker DynoMax Bullet. ( I have used and recommend these )

If you are running a forced induction set-up, you want to avoid any chambered muffler.

I have a pair of Super 10s welded in on my GT at the moment. They are loud. The stereo in my car is useless. If I let the top down, things really get noisy.

Overpasses and parking garages are a lot of fun. I normally do my best in the garages to stay as quiet as possible. However, the ramps leading between each level demand a little throttle. I set off car alarms unintentionally. The child in me laughs and grins as I leave the echoes of crying cars.

As for side exhausts; I have always wanted a side exit. I just can't see a good way of mounting one with the tight spaces provided under the old Mustang.

You could transition to an oval pipe as you go from the middle of the car to the outside. IIRC, this does not adversely affect the flow, as the internal area remains the same. This assumes you use the same diameter pipe; such as a 3" round to a 3" oval.

This set-up has been used in motorsports, so how bad can it be?

Oval actually flows better. One glance under a stock car and you'll see that's all any of them use. Under-car aero is also part of it.

Burns Stainless

I run 4" oval 304 stainless to burns ultralight stage 1 4" to 5.50 sounds great, mind you the turbo dampens to sound some. but they have other mufflers besides full race. give them a call and tell them what you have and they'll hook you up. Not cheap by any means but it worth it imo.

Here are Borla Side exhaust made by Steeda. My personal opinion Flowmasters should NEVER go on a Mod motor. They sound horrible. They are just cheap noise.
