I would agree with something along these lines, although I wouldn't agree with the term "properly." It isn't necessary in everyday life to lace shoes as tight and secure as humanly possible/like a soldier. I can't imagine the discomfort that would bring over the course of a day, not to mention the impracticality of stopping to adjust them every so often.
I think this post has done gone over a few heads...

I can’t imagine not lacing up snug. Whether for work or play, loosely tied shoes feel very uncomfortable to me.
