Are there any DIY dyno shops. I think there should be. An awd dynojet or 2. A couple of hub dynamometers. A couple of post lift bays for minor work and maintenance. A tire and wheel machine. Anything else. A DIY performance shop.
You got a "quote" from whom??????? YOu agreed!!!!!!!! At this point, you are unread about other tuners n products and are fully susceptible to total BS......So my car has been to several performance shops over the years and it seems to be getting worse. I have been going to this one shop since 2013 and was a good experience at the beginning. I dont know what happened. Supposed to be very reputable. It seems like my car get pushed aside when a nicer, faster car shows up.
Back in feburary, I brought me car in for a dyno tune and front end alignment, and was told the dyno was full that friday and I said no problem. A month goes by and I decided that if I have to keep waiting for tuning i will just get a stand alone. I got a quote $5000 and agreed. He said they should start in a month. 4 months later (it has been 6 by this point) and it is still not done. 2 weeks ago I was told I needed a return style fuel system and was told it should be done today but I knew they wouldn't. I have been patiently waiting and now I am pissed. I really want to give them till friday but at this point idk. I have missed countless test n tunes and 5 events. Some advice would be very helpful. I am also afraid they added a crap load of extra $ for "r&d" work.
Is your car a drift?...Thanks for the advice fellas. I will heed your advice. They did start on the car but kept stopping for some reason. If anything the fuel system is hanging out of it. Tried talking to the owner and it seems I am getting the Alan Mason treatment.(the run around)
Me and the old man are going to get the car this week. I found a shop that is a Holley dealer and more than happy to work on the car. He has a lot of drift cars he works on.
The quote was from the shop owner. Parts and labor. So far I have only paid $2500 for the standalone kit. The other $2500 was for labor, extra wiring, and any other parts. I agreed to $5000. Parts, install, dyno tuning and a wheel alignment, out the door. I thought that was fair. Maybe I was wrong. You got a "quote" from whom??????? YOu agreed!!!!!!!! I have drifted it before but is not set up for drifting. It is a road race car but I do everything with it. Drag race, road race, rallies, autocross, drift, etc. If I could, I would rally across it.Is your car a drift?...

I dont agree I am totally unread. I was familiar with other products but wasn't interested in piggybacks. ESPECIALLY with 15 year old wiring. I have been interested in holley for a while especially if I go LS.
I wasn't interested in a piggyback after the sct and hptuners debacle especially if I go ls. I do admit I didnt know about tunerpro but I thought the shop I frequent wouldn't screw me. No one around me uses tunerpro but I didnt search for a longer distance shop. The other concern was if I get 1 guy to use tunerpro to tune the car in one state then I travel elsewhere, what is the consistency of tuners. Not all tuners are good. Not knocking tuners but that goes for everything. Not all mechanics are good mechanics. How am I supposed to trust different people to tune my car when I am competing with them, their friends, or their customers. Or a tuner having a bad day. Self sufficient is what I am after.hate to say it man but that $5,000 was wasted on a stand alone, you could have bought a moates quarterhorse for $250 that turns the stock ecu in to a standalone
the custom tuning software for all the older mustangs is free
EFIDynoTuning
there's several hundred shops around the world that use tunerpro and for the older fords its by far the best tuning option
I am looking at a destroked aluminum ls3. My favorite engine is the ls7. When I heard the new ls7 in the vette back in the 2000s I always giggidied my pants. I just started learning ls. I was considering a coyote but...... idk. Ls seems more durable. I dreamed of the coyote back in 05. When the new 3valves vvt came out, I said it should of been a 5.0 dohc with vvt. Ford was reading my mind just 2 late. Imagine the coyote in 05. What would it be now?If you ever do get your car back and working correctly I'm interested to know how the holley actually works out. I'm with you about the piggybacking and wanting something that will work with LS also. A z06 is in my near future.
Quite honestly it sounds like they dont want to work on the car.
However they should have just turned you away at the beginning vs stringing you along.
Big yikes. Get your car out of there.
I agree. The good thing is I only paid for the standalone so far $2500 which I know is $500 over retail. But with the extra wiring, dyno tuning, alignment, and little extra odds and ends, i thought $5k out the door was reasonable. I usually do my own work if its mechanical. Wiring is my weakness. If there was a short, I guess I would try a holley dealer. If I didnt see an obvious problem. Speakers and trailer lights are about as far as I am willing to go.If he's charging that money he should drop it off at your house, mow your lawn and send you a Christmas card.
But seriously a few points. Like others have said this happens a lot, usually when a shop grows. When I can't do my own work I ask the shop when I can drop it off, How long it will take, & when can I pick it up. And I hold them to it. If they can't do it I will tell them I need it back and go get it.
Also if you're going to roam the country like a 1 man Two Lane Blacktop, learn to do your own work. Bubba's Ford is going to have no idea how to track down a short in your stand alone. I wish you luck
Unfortunately it happens. Some places get too big, and focus on the bigger fish than the guys that had smaller work but kept them afloat early on.
Or, in some of my cases, the level of quality work goes down. New guys come in and do sloppy work.
After the 2nd-3rd time you look elsewhere.
I would go in and see if they touched it, if not just pull it out and go elsewhere.
You need to look at the new DIYAutotune MS3x PNP for the 99-04 cars. That's 1300 bucks and you can do it yourself.
