For those who don't know I bought my uncles 03 Redfire Cobra back on 05/06/19. Since then I've been prepping the car and replacing several items (alternator ugh) to get it ready and this past weekend I attended my first HDPE event at MSR Houston.
My uncle had bought the cobra new in 1/15/03 and the car currently has 11,900 miles. The car is a dedicated road racing track car and has over 9k of it's miles literally racing around on a road course. He retired this year and sold the car to me where I will now continue to HDPE the car just as he done. Since I am a novice I had to run street tires which the car did not like since it's always ran Toyo's RR/RA1 or Hoosier R6/7 it's entire life
The event went well but I determined that 1. I am very slow and 2. the car really needs a good driver mod lol. My lap times toward the end was right at 2:10 which is about 20 seconds off the pace of a much less modded mustang with competent driver. I also had a mishap during the event where the trans got locked in 3rd (broken synchro keyway) so I pulled the trans this past tuesday and I'm in the process of a stage 2 rebuild.
I'll be signing up for the next event in November and plan to hit about 8-10 events a year. The car is street legal and registered for Texas but in 4 months of ownership I only put 125 miles on the car. It's street use will be limited and I have a trailer which I plan to transport the car to the road track.
It's legacy lives on.
