Is a Torque Limiting ImpactBar Set worth purchasing? Always used a impact wrench and finished it with a torque wrench. Is that still #1?

You talking about torque sticks? I usually run it down with the impact and get it close then finish it off with the torque wrench. I’m so familiar with my tool I can get my lug nuts pretty close to their spec.

I think they are pointless if you have a decent torque wrench. Honestly any car guy who actually wrenches should have at least 2 torque wrenches. One ft lbs up to 150 and an inch lb for small stuff that slightly overlaps the larger one in range.

Correction.

1 in inch pounds
1ft to 75/90ft
10ft to 150ft

Those +100ft tend to be a little less forgiving at the low side.

All mentioned above but I will say torque sticks are a crutch. I used to be a service writer way back in the day and we forced all the young "techs" to use them. More to stop guys from blasting on lug nuts with air tools cause they were too lazy to do it correctly.

If you're mindful of what you're doing I don't see a point.

Funny you mentioned that as I just used mine for the first time in a few weeks. It goes to 150 but my latest job required 180+

I ran out of grunt just after it clicked at 150...so it’s close enough

I have a 1/2” that has a range of 50-250lbs. A 3/8ths that’s 15-100lbs and recently just bought an inch pounder that only goes up to like 100”lbs

Like I said the 2 I listed are the minimum. I actually have 3. A 25-250in lbs, 20-100ft lbs and a 50-250ft lbs.

Torque sticks are not 100% accurate. They usually state 5% variance of rated torque. I always finish up with a proper torque wrench afterward to confirm the torque stick got close. Occasionally you will find one or two lugs that just didnt get close.

I use a Husky 1/2" torque wrench 50-250ft/lbs rated. Was $79 on sale at Home Depot. Before that, ive had Snap-On/Blue Point, Matco and one extremely expensive MAC. I also have the full catalog of Harbor Freight torque wrenches that work just as good as my Husky. I usually bring those to track days to check lug nuts after every session.

Lol I did this with the strut bolt on my GT350...

Then I found a torque wrench that went to the necessary torque, I was way off lol.
