I've had my Gen2 GTS for 4 years now.

It's an extremely reliable car even for it's age.

What you MUST do is:
Change powersteering pulley to aluminium one
Change powersteering bracket
Add a fuel hose to powersteering pump air vent hole so if it squirts, it doesn't squirt on the headers
Check the A-arms for hairline cracks

And every year you need to change oil.

That's about it.

It's the most reliable car I've ever had, it's tons of fun to drive and it's wonderful to just look at. It's one of the worlds most beautiful cars in my opinion, very few cars come close to it.
In my opinion I see no reality where a GT500 is more fun than a Viper.

Stock replacement parts are fairly cheap.
Performance parts will definetly make your pockets bleed.

And don't listen to others, they're easy to drive.
If you can handle your GT500 at WOT you'll think a Viper is a childs play. They're not difficult in any way in comparision to a Mustang. I've not driven a GT500 but a whippled Terminator and that is a handful to say the least, the Viper is way easier than that.
Thank you for the info, I've heard of vipers burning down due to P/S leaks on the headers so that's good info. And I kinda figured a 450hp stock viper would be easier to drive than a 800hp GT500. I'm with you on the looks of the GTS, I think they're one best looking cars of all time, that's just my opinion.

All I did was take an 8mm fuel hose with a clamp and just route it downwards. Like literally a 2 minute fix. Also helps locking the lid in place.

What I absolutely love about my Viper is the sheer grip of it. I can roll it in 1st gear and smack WOT at any rpm and it will hook and just go. No spinning or anything.
If I clutch dump it ofcourse it'll spin.
But that's probably mostly due to the extremely tall 3.07 gearing. With 3.55s or 3.73 it's a whole other deal I can imagine.
I always wanted to change gears but honestly, it'll feel faster but probably be slower anyhow because of spinning. And due to the torque, who needs gears?

In comparision to an 800hp GT500 it'll feel and be slow. not a turd, but slow.
But take it to a track and you'll love it.

I must update my post, for the first time ever my Viper wouldn't start. It has left me stranded in my own garage.
The battery is dead...

It's hard to beat the look of the Gen 2's IMO. Having had a few Vipers brought home from the dealer (dad was a fixed op's director for a huge CDJR dealer) I can say that the attention they receive on the street is HUGE. Also, thanks to this thread I'm now looking at local Vipers for sale. lol

That will be fun to change out lol, I know the battery is behind the left rear wheel. I've heard changing the gears to a 3.55 makes a big difference but like you said. With how much TQ they make, not sure if it's worth changing them.
Since i saw this thread the other day, ive been looking at Gen 2 GTSs on Ebay, lol. I see a nice gray one i'd like to pick up and throw some wheels on.
That's exactly how it starts, you start looking at them, and the more you look at them, the more you want to buy one lol.

I changed my mind once I tracked it. Because I could exit a corner at 2500rpm yet get better lap times than if I would exit at 4k RPM with a lower gear.
All because I could concentrate on braking and turning rather than shifting, and with the monstruous torque it isn't slow up from 2500rpm anyhow.

****ing do it. you won't, will you ?

but really. just do it. the gen2 is gonna be worth a **** ton. I sold mine, pretty sad about it, but hey shit happens. they are raw, unforgiving, fast, light, love the twistes, the list goes on and on. side note, you will need a cheap DD like a civic or focus LOL. you don't wanna rack up the miles for value and it's REAL ****ing low.
