This seems like a good unit for 50 bucks. I think I am going to have to put this on my list. I like the fact you can see through it as well...

You could just make one of those on your own. It appears to be a filter for an air compressor.

I ended up grabbing a UPR kit.
My car (turbo) currently has a breather on both valve covers.
Once I install the catch can on the drivers side, what do I do with the passenger side?

Also, do you guys keep the PCV installed, and plug the catch can into it?

ok..so this thread has been going on and broght back up agqain.

My question is: does anyone know what advantage there is to having an oil separator?

I get the whole idea of wanting one just because.

Put one on your car. Drain it after say, 1,000 miles. Then you’ll see why.
I’d prefer not to have that re-circulated through the top of my engine. Now, the great debate would be, how much it’s actually helping. That I’d be interested in knowing. But I guess it makes me feel better that I have something limiting the amount.

So it is all the extra stuff besides the oil that is the problem.
There must be a filter that could be added instead of a catch can that has to be emptied??.....like a power steering filter?

Well I feel it’s the oil mist that coats the surface. Then all the fine dust particles end up sticking to that. The end product is a grainy oily sticky substance. At least that’s what I found in my Eaton when I pulled it off. So I like to limit that amount of oil mist that re-enters the engine. I feel oil mist itself wouldn’t harm much seeing as it’s combustible. But I think it’s the sum of everything. Of course there’s a lot of variables involved, but this is my summary of it.
