Gonna be in the Monterey Bay/Carmel area the next couple days, anything particularly worthy of doing? Planning on heading up to Muir Woods first, we fly into SFO, then taking the 1 south to check out the coast. We have a wedding to attend on Saturday but nothing else planned.

Just did route 1 a few months ago, only from Portland to San Diego. Muir Woods is a tourist trap, but I definitely suggest the Alcatraz tour.

I only picked Muir due to the proximity to SFO. Wanted to at least see a few redwoods while I was there since I don’t plan on spending much time in CA ever. Might try and squeeze in Alcatraz on Sunday.

Muir woods is incredible! I loved going hiking there. How ever when I went it was before all the fires they had so I'm not sure how bad it got hit. 17 mile drive was cool to do quickly to me. It was nice to see pebble beach and the water was cold as all hell! I was super stoked to go to the aquarium but was a little let down. To me the long beach aquarium blows it away but I know it is primarily known for its research.

Had a good time walking through Muir today. Only did a couple of trails but it wasn’t busy so we were able to just take our time and enjoy the scenery. Rental car is a Mustang ecoboost convertible so we took the 1 south to Seaside. Gonna hit up the aquarium tomorrow and maybe go to Big Sur.

The land of commies and socialists!
17 mile drive is nice. Absolutely beautiful coast line and views. The ground squirrels will run up to you expecting food.

The Sardine Factory is nice for dinner. Expect to pay though.

Whale watching can be cool as long as you see some and don't have some dude spraying vomit on you. No joke, it happened to me last time we went lol.

Heading back north so to speak the Santa Cruz Beach boardwalk is fun at night.

If you stay a night in San Fran stick to the tourist areas like the embarcadero. Make sure you don't get caught up in some wierdo *** parade. Been there done that and wanted to wash my eyes out with bleach. I wouldn't recommend spending any more time there than you need though. People joke that it's a shit hole but I genuinely is.

I don't know if anything's going on there, but Laguna Seca perhaps. I haven't been there in 40 years so I could be WAY off base.

Youre gonna love it, the weather here has been great, the entire US has been like 100's, and here specifically in the bay area (that touches water) its been around 70-80s.

But when heading south to carmel, go further south and you will Bixby Bridge and then hit Big Sur too. The advice about going to Laguna Seca can be spot on, just check the track's website or LS events to see whats happening before going.

That area Gran Turismo 7 sort of added to the game. Grand Valley Highway 1 vs. Real Life [More added Pg. 2]

If you're into motorcycles, check out the Moto Talbott museum in Carmel Valley.

Nice! And I also forgot to mention how close laguna Seca is also. I didn't know till we were driving south to go to Huntington and passed it. I'd have allotted some time had I have known

Yesterday was Monterey Aquarium, Lovers Point, 17 Mile Drive, and Point Lobos. Didn’t make it down to Big Sur because we were running short on time. Wife woke up with a migraine thanks to a bit to much red wine so don’t know what we are gonna get done today.

Gotcha. We were only doing Muir for the same reason, but like you, we will likely never Visit CA ever again either. So we started our trip in Oregon to get more redwood hikes in. We were the only people on some trails there, it was awesome.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread. We did a lot of what was suggested from the thread I made here also and had a great trip.

Didn’t get a chance to go to Alcatraz or Laguna Seca unfortunately. Took the 101 back north and stopped at the Rosicrucian Egyptian museum along the way which was cool. Got back home late last night. My wife said that my mood picked up as soon as we got on the plane to leave SFO and that I looked miserable the entire time we were there. I definitely don’t get the appeal of California. Weather in the Carmel area was low 60’s overcast and windy the entire time. Traffic sucked constantly and paying double the price for everything was the topper.
