Picked up a little gem this weekend for my son who will be driving in a few months.

1998, 4x4, 4.0, auto 5r55e, 3.73's, bench front seat config so technically 5 seater (not really lol.. back seats are tiny), 185k miles. Truck is CELAN CLEAN CLEAN!

Quick pic.... I need to clean her up and will get some better shots.

It had a terrible drivetrain clunk that I resolved with some grease on the driveshaft slip joint. All is well now! Prior owner thought it needed a transfer case...

That’s awesome Dom. My first vehicle was a 98 Ranger Flairside with the 2.5 and 5spd. It was a good truck.

Nice, impressions so far of it?

Coming from my '17, the '23 R is instantly familiar, in a good way. There are a number of nice updates to the truck - the ride on-road is both smoother and better-controlled, the new infotainment system is a couple steps forward, and it's just as quiet and comfortable inside as the previous generation.

And then of course the V8 rumble, and the combination of S/C whine and boatloads more power from the powerplant, steals the show every time you press on the accelerator. I'm still in the breakin period, but I've had to pass traffic on a two-lane freeway a couple of times already, and the way this truck goes from 50 to 80 mph right now is intoxicating.

Hell of a truck. Ford nailed it, again.

Hey that's a sweet truck for a new teen driver. I rented these from Budget for a while in the early 2000's, and they were fun even with the auto transmission. My neighbor's son started driving this fall. His dad asked him how much he had saved, and when he said 2k, Dad said, "well I'll have to help you then." They got him a 95 or 96 I believe Dodge Ram 4X4 xcab shortbed. Needed some minor stuff done which dad did mostly, but some they did together. Kid drives the truck all the time.
