Just got back from Melbourne Beach Brad and it was a good trip. If I could live on the beach we would move there 100%. I still have 20 years of work to decide.

Melbourne(FL) is a nice area. Also blowing up in growth.
Used to be a hidden area to live close to the water one the east coast without paying a fortune, while not being too far from South Florida.

We vacation in Florida, a lot, been probably 40 times. Have 2 vacations booked for this year...St Pete and Marathon.

After visiting the St Pete area for the first time 10 years ago we had plans to maybe retire in that area. After going for all of these years we have decided not to just because of the changes we seen in that time.

New plan is Tennessee/Alabama area, on a lake, in the mountains. We're on 30 acres now with no immediate neighbors, and i'd like to keep it that way if possible. We'd still like 4 seasons without the snow. Can't imagine what it would be like not to have to worry about rust and not live in a communist state lol. Somewhere within a reasonable driving distance to the Gulf. That's the plan.

I have noticed in Charlotte, NC and surrounding area. Raised property values, traffic getting worse. More idiots on the roads. Cookie cutter subdivisions, apartments, and townhomes popping up everywhere. Along with Publix grocery stores going up everywhere. NC does have a state tax along with gas tax, property tax, high sales and food tax, and out of state use/sales tax (if you bought something online or physically in another state NC wants to know to tax you for it).

Been here 20 years but don’t think I want to stay much longer at this rate.

Says the guy that’s from the state of New York.

The biggest irony is the “natives” crying about “Yankees” while they are completely ungrateful of said Yankees saving them from becoming CommieFornia…

Florida was on the brink of becoming solid blue permanently and then a mass influx started pouring in as people left those blue shitholes and lo and behold Florida is Blood ****ing red. No longer a real “battle ground” state.

You’re welcome.

As far as I can tell is mostly Yankees filling up the town I live in. Pretty sure 90% of the city politicians are Yankees. They aren’t doing anyone any favors by expanding our town. Except for themselves.

Well on paper we are the hated in SW Florida, according to this thread. I grew up in MA and have lived there my whole life. Im now in my 50's and bought a home in a neighborhood in Naples that dates back to the 60's (not a new development). We closed 20 days before Ian. Our home survived as it was built to 10' standards (rebuilt 4 years ago). Im 1000% on the "right" side, and bring no cancer from the north. I also drive like an adult, do pay attention on the road, and brought 2 cars here permanently, that have FL plates. We would not ever talk shit about the area, we think it's great. We were here in August, and loved it even more, as the tourists were not, and traffic was much better (we have been here since the beginning of the year). Our intention is to homestead this year or next. I hope to meet, somehow, some of the vocal SW FL folks to show, not everyone SUCKS from the north (but I 10000% get your points being here)......

I feel for a lot of you guys. I lived in FL (Tampa) from 2001 to 2005 (military assignment at MacDill AFB). I loved it there back then. It wasn't that bad back then. Lots to do and a good life to be had. I actually thought about retiring there from the military, but things didn't work out due to 9/11. I was transferred to Germany with a deployment to Iraq. So, I moved my family back home to El Paso.

I retired from the military in El Paso in 2007 and got a government job. Took the wife back to Tampa a few years later. Holy crap what a difference. Traffic is crazy. Property prices are insane (don't know how people can afford to buy anything down there now).

I love living in El Paso. No state tax and prices here are still manageable (you guys see my list of cars below and I'm retired from the military and have a government job. Not rich by any means). I own my home as I paid it off last year.

The problem is there's nothing to do here, but be with your family. No major sports teams, no high end entertainment, no amusement parks, very small zoo and museums. Minor league baseball team. Every once in a while Monster Jam comes through (Monster trucks) and a big name band (i.e. Tool or Metallica). We are in the middle of nowhere (6 hours to Phoenix, 8 hours to Dallas, 8 hours to San Antonio and 8 hours to Austin). Oh and we are across from one of the most violent cities in the world (Juarez, MX).

And that suits me just fine LOL. So, as of now not a lot of people looking to move to El Paso. They want Dallas, Houston, San Antonio or Austin.

But, I believe, it's just a matter of time before things start ramping up here and driving up our cost of living and commuting time. I understand I'm not immune to the BS going on around the country.....

There's a brewery I like to stop at in El Paso when I'm passing through on I-10.

Alabama, near the TN border, is an area I keep an eye on.

I just did a closing for a couple that lived in Mooresville for the past 25 years. They said it's unrecognizable from the place they moved to.

NC is full. Check out SC.

Filling up here rather quickly.

Am i a yankee anymore living here this long and marrying a native? Most of the true crackers I know, say no. I'm 100% accepted, well known in this area and get respect. So, throw that one out the window.

I understand why you and the other 200K plus move here every year. Let that 200K plus number sink in for a minute and see what it does for the infrastructure that was never built to handle it. Roads, water and hospitals were never thought about with this growth. You moved to a condo IIRC, so you do nothing like I do to maintain your property besides pay fees. I actually like you, but to each there own. I'll do that when I actually can't.

You are, but I understand your point. Florida was laid back, go to work, pop in for a beer on the way home. Now, no seats at the local place because some douche who's retired can get there before us and talks about how good food was up north, Gets old, real old. The influx has gotten overwhelming.

Single family house coming up in North Naples. And guess what? I will still do nothing to maintain my property except pay fees and the condo will become an investment property.
Just waiting for the economy to lower the real estate in Naples. Don’t care about the interest rates. We definitely don’t want to buy at the top of the market. We’ll wait it out until it happens.

Personally I don’t want to own a house down here, it’s just the two of us, no kids, but she wants a small home with a cage a pool and a garage with her own yard.
We go back and forth about the location.
I want to be in North Naples she wants to move to Marco Island and get a golf cart. I ain’t livin there.

Personally, I get why people that have been here a long time don’t like people from the north east moving down here in droves. Nobody likes change but nothing is staying the same anymore in this country.
I’m sure if I’m here 30 or 40 more years things won’t be to my liking either.

The beautiful thing about America is that if you are truly unhappy here, you can always pack up and leave.

What neighborhood are you in in Naples?
Where did you grow up in Mass?

Are you retired down here and what do you do for fun?
You go to a local gym? The beach?
What restaurants do you like?

They have 5 years on me, but they are right. Everyday seems more different.

So maybe we talked about Naples before. I don’t remember but are you a sheriff down here?
Where are you in Naples?
I was born at NCH Baker, lived near the city when I was little but grew up in the estates. I now live in Fort Myers because the cost of living has gotten so out of control. And I’m a deputy with Lee county.

NC has state income tax. There are rumors of a repeal, and rates have come down in the past few years thanks to a Republican Majority. Dems held the General Assembly from just after the Civil War until 2010, and 'Pubs have had a veto-proof majority off-and-on since then.
It’s nice not having a state tax. That’s one thing I’m not looking forward to if/when I move.
