I think you are right. I've only really been paying attention since late last summer, but I've seen lightly modded cars go for nearly the same price as those which are supercharged.
Here's a decent data point for you: 1998 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra
1998 Cobra, 51k miles, pretty clean but an accident history, moderate mods including some nasty 1980s era louvers
Sold for $15,000 on BAT
OP, I'm in almost exactly the same boat as you.
What I'm close to concluding is that my Cobra will sound good and be a fun analogue driving experience but not my fastest car. Newer technology and AWD makes going fast so much easier.
FWIW I'm also considering the KB 2.1, the immediate...
Keep it. If you continue taking care of the car it will only get MORE valuable.
An appreciating investment you can have fun with is the perfect win/win IMO.
Yeah, the valve cover gasket replacement is a royal pain. After close to 8 hours this weekend I've managed to get the driver's valve cover side off and I have no clue how I'll get it back on there with the gasket in place.
Passenger side fuel and AC lines appear to be an obstacle I'll have to...
Congrats OP.
I'm recently new to the SN95 4.6 Cobra family too. Used to be a 4th gen f-body guy. Unbelievable how much easier these Cobras are to work on lol. And much more comfortable to drive.
I have a nearly stock, well-cared for '98 cobra with 59k miles. I changed out the plugs last weekend and noticed I had some oil on plugs 2 & 6, including relatively fresh looking oil on the top (non-combustion chamber) side. Did a little research and I think it might be a leak in the valve...
Thanks for the quick response!
Makes sense on intercooler, and I think I've understood that there's no off the shelf solution. I don't see running E85 being an option.
Goals: reliable street car to drive 2-3 days a week... I think I'd be happy with the base KB for a while... but I've been...
... for our 96-98 Cobras compared to the centrifugal superchargers, is it the fact that the KB is not intercooled so boost is limited?
I also saw some old threads that might have mentioned inlet restrictions?
I know that the KB doesn't produce big numbers out of the box, but my car will be a...
Getting ready to start a build on my 98 Cobra, still deciding how far I want to go with it but looking for somewhere reputable, with expertise on the 4v 4.6, in the Austin/Central Texas area to do most of the work. Recommendations appreciated!
Yeah I know flowmasters get dogged by that's the sound I want.
Maybe the question I should ask is whether I need to plan on a higher diameter mid-pipe and muffler inlet/outlet size than the off-the-shelf product if I go larger than and out-of-the box mild supercharger set up.
I'm going to start a build on my '98 Cobra but I'm not sure how far I'm going to go, whether its:
1) Exhaust and gears
2) Exhaust, gears and mild supercharger (6-8 psi)
3) Full engine build and high boost supercharger
My Cobra is currently 100% stock and I want the flowmaster / x-pipe sound in...
I recently bought a bone stock '98 cobra. These cars have a nice induction sound over 3,000 rpms, is there a way to turn up the volume on that? I had a 2012 5.0 that had some foam plugs in tubes, pulling those out increased the engine sound in the cabin. Conversely, I've seen that CAI don't...
I used a GPS app and OBDII scanner... when I was running 60 mph per GPS my rpms per OBDII scanner were around 1,840-1,865.
When I was running 60 mph per GPS my speedo and OBDII scanner would read 54 mph.... so my speedo looks to be about 10% under actual... is that common in sn95s?
Anyway...
Hello all, new and first time Cobra owner here, a seemingly well-cared for 59k mile red 1998. Car drives super nice and appears 100% factory except for maybe the gears? To that end, I've done some research online but wanted to get more input.
At 60 mph (per speedo) I'm turning 2,000 rpms...
