My 02 came with straight Mercon when it was new. You can use Mercon V as Dusten said, because they phased out straight Mercon and replaced it with Mercon V. I still use the Dexron III/ Mercon because it is identical to the original Mercon requirement. Yes, 6 or seven quarts may do you, always...
Actually, it is true what he said. I saw a Gen 2 extended cab in San Bernardino while I was working there, it was white IIRC. I wanted to buy one at the time and found out it was a shop that did the conversions, not sold at any Ford dealer anywhere. Also, I seem to remember that the conversion...
Glad you found it, thanks Dusten for the back up. You should replace it because they are prone to problems and will corrode internally. Found them on Rock Auto, anywhere from $33 to $60. It's under exhaust and emission. I know what you mean about the hands healing, my Lightning is a demanding...
Exactly, old muscle car days is where I learned about low end and high rpm misses. 98% of the time it was a fouled plug. On several occasions it was a new plug right out of the box that gave me fits, I just cold not believe that the new one was junk. When they came out with resistance plug...
In your original post you stated that you had changed plugs around 12k, and shortly thereafter you have a slight miss. My guess is that you opted for cheap plugs, as you stated is your mantra, "cheap and easy". My thinking is that your miss is either fuel mixture or a spark issue, with cops...
You may be correct, my cross reference was done using the stock Motorcraft as the base and it showed the IT16 and the IT20 replaced the stock heat range, the 16 being a bit hotter. You may want a bit hotter plug, regardless of manufacture because of your original stated problem.
I have an 18k 02, been running densos for most of the time I have owned it, never fouled a plug. What heat range are you running? I used IT 16 for a six pound pulley and ported blower. When I added more mods and boost went to IT 20. If you prefer the NGK brand and feel more comfortable with...
IIRC, Danny Swanson in Torrance, has Lightning experience and can do the work. I don't have any links, long since lost my California connections when I moved to Indiana a few years back. I think it's called Swanson Tuning, but not absolutely sure.
Another one I seem to recall is Racer's Edge in...
I've always admired your truck. I am partial to black anyway. You have done a tremendous amount of work on her and it shows. I think I saw some awesome times for that setup on LR. I hope you keep it for quite a while, easy to get burned out when the checkbook gets low.
Just another skeleton here, I check through here quite often to see if there is anyone I can help. My rule is, if I know anything worthwhile, I offer it up. In you case, I had not heard of this problem, so I did not respond. We are fortunate to have guys like Dusten who will take the time to...
Hello fellow Lightning owner from Norway, welcome aboard,
I am not the expert, but it sounds like a rod bearing or a wrist pin, neither of which is good news. Unless you can find any other reason for the knock, the engine will need rebuilding. Sorry to give you bad news.
Some might suggest a...
You could put a 4# pulley, a cold air intake and a tune, but personally, I would not start beating on a 61k engine without some serious upgrades. This would also depend on the level of maintenance and upkeep on said engine. Before you do that upgrade to a pulley/tune, make sure the intercooler...
I assume then it is new, not used, then the most likely answer is listed in this previous post.
Do you have a power bleeder or are you trying to pedal pump and drain or just a hand held bleeder?
Not sure it would matter as long as the hose is either connected or blocked. I see you have the egr delete as well as other mods, I was thinking it was a stock Lightning, so my advice may not be that helpful.
If I understand what you are saying, the small middle hose has slipped out of the rubber connector. If that is the case, just push it back in firmly as far as it will go. If it is to tight just a small amount of lubricant will help. If it is really loose after pushing it in, go to a parts store...
Thanks for the update, glad you found the problem. Most who post problems usually never share the solution leaving the rest of us to figure it out on their own. So, yeah, thank you.
