Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

Well, I took the Cobra for a test drive today (first drive after testing the fan successfully in my garage) and the high-speed fan setting decided to be AWOL. Gonna have to monkey with the fan connector some more, I guess.

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

I used the pointy tip of my 12V test light to push in around the edges of the connector on the fan side, hoping that it would give better contact with the harness-side plug. After plugging the fan back in, I fired up the car and turned on the AC. The fan started spinning! Assuming that the AC...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

I disconnected the fan harness and drove the car for about 10 minutes to get it warmed up. With the coolant over 190F (the temp at which high-speed operation should begin), only the high-speed lead was hot according to my 12V test light. (In my picture above, it's the lead that's at the 1:00...

Never heard of it.. but sounds handy. I'll look into it.

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

I've already confirmed that the high-speed setting of the fan works if jumpered directly to the battery. I've also already confirmed continuity between the harness at the CCRM and the harness at the fan, for both the low-speed and high-speed fan modes. I'll next check to see if the high-speed...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

I did some testing by setting the fan speeds in a "base" tune I had on the device. (Canned tune support is disabled, but I had one "base" tune that does let me change parameters.) Basically, whenever the coolant temp is below the high-speed fan temp, the fan runs in low-speed mode. As soon...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

Thanks for the explanation about the low-speed fan signal. I have an SCT Livewire but the car has a custom tune that I can't edit. But.. I guess I could adjust a canned tune to have really low fan temps, load that in the car, and just turn on the key to see if the fan kicks on. I drove...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

I found this thread: https://stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/03-radiator-fan-wont-turn-on.911298/ I also looked up the fan wiring diagram in the service manual. Interestingly, it states that checking for power at the fan plug, either low speed or high speed should be on, but not both...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

Are you positive about the flash only activating the low-speed fan? I am pretty confident that the ECM flash did turn on the high-speed fan--I remember it sounding like a plane was taking off whenever the flash was loading (and seeing the voltmeter drop into the very low 12s or high 11s due to...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

I installed the new CCRM and there was no change. When flashing the ECM, the fan only spins up to low speed. (I also tried the AC and it still doesn’t work, either.) So I swapped back to the original CCRM. I then decided to check the wiring at the fan plug. I did another ECM flash and checked...

    Motor oil and filter?

I think 20-weight and 30-weight are probably not optimally thick enough for a Cobra driven hard in warm temps. The GT500s were recommended to run 5W50, and I feel like that's a lot closer to a good recommendation for the very-similar Cobra motor. I've run Mobil1 0W40 but most recently switched...

Help troubleshooting radiator fan not coming on while driving

The radiator fan on my '03 Cobra doesn't come on during normal driving, and I'm trying to figure out why. History: I bought the Cobra in 2020 from a seller in Texas. I flew down and when he picked me up at the airport in it, it overheated. We discovered that the radiator fan physically would...

Hoses for Department of Boost super single heat exchanger?

Looking at the descriptions for the S550 and the Cobra heat exchangers, I'm pretty sure they're identical.

Hoses for Department of Boost super single heat exchanger?

I've got a DoB super single heat exchanger ( Super Single Heat Exchanger S550 - Department of Boost ) and the requisite MAF Racing bumper support ( Mustang Bumpers and Core Supports ) and need to get them installed. Does anyone have a list of hoses that are needed to connect the super single to...

Why isn't fuel cutoff on decel working?

I want to enable DFCO (decel fuel cutoff) in the tune on my '03. Originally, the settings were as below. No matter what, letting off the throttle results in pops and burbles and clearly a bunch of unburned fuel coming out the exhaust. With the top down, I get a fair amount of gas smell too...

Where to buy 03/04 replacement vert top

Why do you want a cloth top instead of vinyl? I kind of wish my cloth-top '03 had a vinyl top like my old '89. The cloth top seems more prone to catching dirt and friggin' pet hairs.

Flow test - are these really 60# injectors?

Ahh, okay.. yeah the B556V part number does come back as 47# injectors. Thanks for pointing that out. I figured maybe Deatchwerks was just modifying stock Ford injectors so I went poking around on their website and found the flow characteristics for their 39# and 60# injectors under "Tuning...

Flow test - are these really 60# injectors?

I picked up some used Deatchworks 60 lb injectors. They came in a Deatchworks box but without the flow sheet. I called Deatchworks and they have numbers etched into the bodies which the tech said meant they were Deatchworks sourced injectors, but couldn’t confirm their rating aside from the box...

19s and good tires--what to buy?

I actually had a set of 255/35R19 PSSes on my '15 Audi S4 when I got it. One of them got a bulge in the sidewall. By the time I'd have ordered a replacement, had it shaved (so all four tires are the same tread depth) and installed, I'd be at around $300. A set of the Firehawk Indy 500s was...

Thinking about a ZL1, but why are they soo.. slow?

Where have you seen that mentioned? The ZL1 has 11 heat exchangers (not just for supercharger, obviously) and better cooling performance than the Z06, which apparently is noted for having heat issues at the roadcourse once ambient is in the 90s, IIRC.

Thinking about a ZL1, but why are they soo.. slow?

I like the supercharger for the torque everywhere that a NA car doesn't have and the instant torque that a turbo car doesn't have. It makes for a better street driving experience. The ZL1 turned a 2:50 at VIR, which is in the top-10 fastest lap times Car & Driver has ever recorded at that...

Thinking about a ZL1, but why are they soo.. slow?

It's gotta be factory supercharged with enough cooling that I can go lapping on the roadcourse without heat being a major issue. No aftermarket-supercharged car can fill that role.

Thinking about a ZL1, but why are they soo.. slow?

I'm window-shopping for a replacement for my '04 Cobra to do street and roadcourse duty. No solid-axle cars, so GT500s are out. Needs to be factory supercharged, so '15+ GT and GT350 are out. Needs to have a back seat, so the Vette and Viper are out. Which pretty much leaves the Camaro ZL1...

How likely am I to blow my motor running 19 PSI at 18.5 degrees on 93 plus octane booster?

Don Lasota is who tuned my car, and it's a pooch. So, yeah. And it has apparently-unsolvable drivability issues. This car has been nothing but a disappointment ever since the blower swap, and a lot of it is due to those two complaints.
