Looking to refresh my tune and do some updates (possibly GT Pumps, new injectors, resolve an alternator issue, etc.) and maybe minor maintenance for my 03 Cobra. I just moved outside of Austin this summer. I see a bunch of old posts but nothing recent. Looks like it might have to be HPP...
Mine did sit for a few months. It actually sits most of its life. Only had 23K miles. Between deployments and living in WA a state where it rained 8 months out of the year, I hardly drive it.
No I was so worried about it being something else that I didn't even consider the belt/idlers. I don't think the tensioner is under excessive tension, I don't remember exactly how much play it has.
From what I can tell just listen I'd guess the ticking is coming from here:
But the acoustics...
MGoh3, your logic is sound brother. And I appreciate the offer. I really am leaning towards the alternator as well. Otherwise it just doesn't make sense that something internal failed after the car was sitting. FWIW a friend mentioned that it sounds like a pulley or tensioner when I sent him...
That's what I want to know. I mean it literally sat there for months. I'm kinda of ashamed. Its the longest its ever been outside. I've always garage kept it except for when I moved from Texas to Washington and from Kansas to Texas. Both times I left it at my parents house and they aren't...
I heard back from CT Performance, obviously they just saw the video and can't really tell too much but are concerned it could be chain slap or a single cylinder issue (i.e. valve spring, rocker, or broken piston skirt). Ouch!
CJ428Mach: Will do once I get it back, thanks. I assume you still have the Cobra in storage, we never got a chance to meet when I was in KS, but thanks for all the help as always.
Keith89, yeah. I'm not sure what the deal is. I do notice a distinct buzzing, sounds like its coming from the...
I'll have to check the pulley alignment. I have an aerometer gauge and I watched the voltage as it dropped while I was driving around. That in conjunction with the battery light on the dash and checking with a multimeter while the car was at idle. Gauge and multimeter read about the same low...
No I got the aluminum Mechman. I have the 0 gauge wires for ground and positive leads. I wasn't supplied any spacers from Mechman. To be clear, I got it, put it on, and it stopped charging after a few days. I sent it back and when they returned it, it still wasn't charging and this ticking...
So, definitely run it with out the belt then.
Guys, I really appreciate all the help I'm getting. This site and community are always so awesome!! Thanks.
That's actually where I plan on taking it. I shot them an email with the videos right after posting here. Great to here from more than one source that they are good.
Yeah, I don't understand how it sat for months and then when I pop the alternator back in.... tick, tick, tick.... I thought maybe exhaust leak, manifold gasket went bad after sitting for so long but it sounds pretty definitively like a metallic tick.
I got the alternator back from the manufacturer after having sent it in. I doubt its that jacked up, but hey.... It hasn't worked right since I've owned it so maybe. But the ticking was coming from the other side, or so I think anyhow.
Well, you may be hearing some squeaking. I realized when I was taking the alternator out that the belt had jumped one rib off the crank pulley. Only one rib. I reset it, and crank it up again and sure enough, it was hanging off by one rib again. So, not sure if you hear squeaking from that...
