'02 L VS '04 GTO Auto

So a buddy of mine on base ran into me today at the shop and asked if I'd be interested in running another guy from my boat who just bought a '04 automatic GTO. Casual wager of $100 but I'm wondering is it worth it? I get the funny feeling like I'm getting hustled because no mention of mods to the GTO were mentioned and I've heard and seen the autos run faster and more consistent than the manual equipped flavor.

I'm pretty much bone stock with 54XXX miles and just an intake. Think it's worth a shot or should I pass on it? :shrug:
