Ford has been very, very open about shifting their focus to SUVs and smaller, more efficient engines. Their marketing reflects that very well. The GT500 is a limited production car that sells itself to: the enthusiasts (a very niche group) and enthusiasts with $$$$$ (a very niche group of the enthusiasts). The GT500 will have no problem selling, and Ford is well aware of that fact. Then, add in that the 'next generation' of Ford income does not really care about performance cars (or cars in general) and it's no surprise you don't see a lot of marketing for the GT500. The next generation cares about everything Ford is spending marketing dollars on: environment, sustainability, acceptance, equality, etc... They've already got us 'old' enthusiasts and they know some have established their careers/finances to be able to buy a $80k+ car. There is absolutely no need to spend the money on marketing, but more importantly for Ford's vision and to the appeal of their 'next-generation' of income, pushing big marketing on a 760hp performance-oriented car may hurt the brand. A higher-up from Ford gave a presentation at our company a couple of years ago (we are a big presence in the automotive world, and sustainability world). He was very clear that Ford does not see itself as a car manufacturer in the future. Ford wants to establish itself as a technology company, and they are currently taking the steps to reach that goal. I'm glad Ford Performance is still around, and I suspect it will be for quite some time. But Ford, and the world in general, will go through some pretty interesting changes if their plan is carried out as currently envisioned.
