I thought I would forever own a Mustang. When I started with Mustangs and bought my first one after graduating high school it was a fox body which I modded the hell out of. Then once I could afford a little more I got a Terminator. Then I sold it shortly before the GT350R came out because I thought that Shelby would be my next Mustang. The combination of ridiculous markups and driving a friend’s Model S P85D kind of made me realize that I was getting older and maybe it would be cool to have a car that was blistering fast and that I would not have to pour tons of money to do. I went without a Mustang for 4 years to see what would come out of this event today and I guess I have made up my mind. I’m never getting a gasoline car again as the performance and instant low end torque of an EV is just something that i could not give up now. After this announcement I guess I’m not buying a Ford or Mustang either which is something I never thought I would say. I will be buying a Model S P100D as I think that 10.6 quarter mile times and 325-348 mile range are more than sufficient for me. While this “Mustang” EV they announced looks ok I think this reeks of some desperation to boost their “green” creds or some knee jerk reaction to where they think the market is going. I think this car will have the headwind every other EV or hybrid Ford will have: dealers will not be enthusiastic to sell these as traditional trucks and SUVs will make more money.
