Just to answer a few question, my commute is pretty short (about 14 miles). I made a decision a long time ago when I got into performance vehicles that I’m not going to let low MPG and high gas prices bother me. It’s the price you pay to enjoy the drive. For those suggesting a 5th gen Explorer Sport, the bench 2nd row is a deal breaker. Plus, I prefer the RWD biased architecture of the 6th gen. I’m also not a fan of the exhaust in the cab issue that they never seemed to totally solve with the 5th gens. I would consider an Aviator but would most likely prefer the sporty Explorer ST over a base Aviator. As stated in the OP, this would almost certainly not be a new purchase. 1-2 year old CPO with 30k miles is probably what I’d be looking at. That Durango SRT sounded mean, but I’m not big on Chryslers. I looked into a couple of Jeep products a little while ago and wasn’t impressed. I’ll take a look again. Although a quick search on CarMax shows a 2018 with 15k miles at $54k. So they’re right up there.
