I had a Rheem 98% efficient gas furnace installed last year and it works great. I wanted to go with Carrier but the mechanical contractor talked me out of it. The Rheem units are very nice looking and I decided to take a chance with them. The installation went great and we paired it with an Ecobee 4 smart thermostat that has Alexa built in. I can set the AC or heat via voice commands in the bedroom, dining room or on my iPhone. The temperatures can also be set remotely when you are out of the house. Global Leader and Manufacturer of Heating, Cooling, and Water Heating Products - Rheem Manufacturing Company But the home is actually currently being heated with Ethereum mining rigs with a total of 41 GPUS (21 1070 ti, 18 RX580, 1 1070 and 1 1080ti). It is using about 5000 watts continuous electricity @ 1368 mh/s. I can get the mh/s up a little but at the expense of more electrical power which is not worth it so I settled with a balance between power and performance. It is 25 degrees F outside, the furnace is not coming on and the thermostat inside is reading 67 degrees. I have a single computer with one 1070 ti sitting on the dining table close to the thermostat and it is heating the local area to trick the thermostat. I have a second thermostat in the bedroom and that is also reading 67 degrees so the heat from the rigs seem to spread through the house. I have two return air registers above the mining rigs in the basement and the hot air is sucked into the duct work. Our gas bill is pretty low in the winter and the electric fan does not come on as much with the mining rigs heating the house. Sure it cost more to heat the house with mining rigs compared to a gas furnace. But I am getting paid in Ethereum to heat the house so the extra expense is offset. If Ethereum goes to zero it will be a waste. If it goes up it could be profitable. It is a gamble. I turn the rigs off in the summer. The ETH price is just not high enough to justify that discomfort.
