Autometer Water Temp Gauge Installation In 2012 5.0>>>

I am about to install Autometer ATM#2283 - a rad hose spice kit that holds the sending unit for the Autometer electrical temp gauge. I know a couple of folks on here have added this piece to their set up on their 2011+. How far did you have to drain your rad to do this install? I am about to start, but wanted to get some advice first.

For simple readings like this, why not invest in something like a Scangauge2? Why splice up a new car, add potential for leaks, when a OBD2 reader can be installed and mounted in minutes?
