I believe the Focus recall was about an engine stumbling problem after a fill-up. If we're talking about the same recall, they replace the purge valve. Probably doesn't apply here. OP -- the filling problem was actually mostly the 05-07 models. In 08, they redesigned the vapor canister and the fill tube. For the fill tube, they added an additional vent line, presumably to help with the fill issue. I hadn't previously seen where the GT500s had the same issue, but it wouldn't surprise me - can't imagine the EVAP is any different. Try this: At the EVAP canister (under the spare tire well), you will see several quick-connects. Disconnect the tank vent tube -- you should be able to trace it from the top/right of the tank to the quick-connect at the back of the EVAP as it exits the metal shield. If the problem is that your EVAP is stopped up, thus preventing proper venting, disconnecting that line should allow you to fill up with ease. You'll then know what you have. If that's the case, replacing the whole evap is the easiest thing (versus trying to figure out what part of it is stopped up), and they aren't too expensive.
