If you think about it, 4.6 is a random engine size!

tonight, I just sat down and thought about the new 4.6's and how advanced they are... and how much more superior they are to the 5.0's. But one things sucks about them. 4.6 is such a random engine size... 5.0 has a nice ring to it!

When ford designed the 4.6, why did they choose 4.6 Liters? Is there some scientific reason? What do you guys think??

It's a modular engine. Ford 4 cylinder is a 2.3L, which is way the 4.6 is a 4.6....two 2.3's mated together.

Yes. It is an "over square" design. Same bore as stroke (90.2mm x 90.0mm). One of the M.E.s around here can tell you why that's important...I can't :p
