The unemployment rate has been on a fairly steady, albeit slow, decline since, I believe 2008 or something like that. Which I find that pretty interesting considering the Great Recession was supposedly happening at that time. But yeah, the tech industry has been "abusing" H1B for a while now. I recall Trump tried to put the kibosh on it early in his term. My wife told me stories about people in her company having to train the H1B holders how to replace them before being escorted out. After Trump made his announcement, the same company started kicking the H1B holders out and let their visas expire. They still have a LOT of Indians on their workforce, though, just like every other tech industry in the country. What is the point of working, if the wages can't support you? Not everybody wants to raise a family, buy a house, or even have the newest car. Some people's nirvana is to be a barista at a snooty coffee bar. They should still be able to sustain themselves, even with an unskilled job. The only things holding companies back from paying livable wages to all are shareholder profit margins and big bonuses and umbrella packages for the senior executives.
