i was wondering also before if you have any pets do you have to live off base? my and my fiance have a small dog that would have to come with us of coarse. was just wondering about that.

I believe the limit is two pets in base housing.

I think I am qualified to chime in...being active duty Air Force for almost 26 years and a Chief Master Sergeant (E9).

Security Forces career field is really stressed and undermanned. The reason for this? Deployments. The question is not if you will deploy but WHEN you will deploy. There are deployments all over the world, but 90% chance you will go to Iraq or more than likely now...Afghanistan. Another good thing, if I remember right, the Security Forces career field offers a BIG re-enlistment bonus.

Good thing is the AF will take care of your wife. The Air Force normally have the best bases compared with their peers. Housing and base services are normally top notch.

Security Forces can be a rough career field. Normally, you can work long hours and weekends. And they tend to eat their own. Now, that is not always...but, of course the lower rank you are, the more chit jobs you get (been there done that).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

from what i hear not only are AF deployment shorter but deployment bases are much nicer as well. Swimming pools and fast restaraunts are not uncommon.

Trevor, thanks bud for the service.
Thats what gets me, before we landed in Afghanistan we landed somewhere outside of Afghanistan not sure what the country was called. The AF had it made, we were loading trucks with our bags in front of a fricking nightclub. I even think they were drinking alcohol I'm not sure what though. They have a PX, pizza hut and burger king..

Afghanistan is suxor compared to some of the places in Iraq. In the built up zones you have internet, fast food, ect... If your in the chit hole places (embedded with Army), its nothing but sand, kind a lot like Afghanistan. But, Afghanistan is getting more built up with better facilities...still a chit hole if you ask me.

Dude your posts are so ignorant it's not even funny:nonono: You don't know what country or base you were at? Holy crap man. It's obvious based on your post that you are angry about being in the military and are just trying to find things to make your hate of the Army justified.

I'm in the CG and I'd be happy to help you out and answer any questions that you may have about going over-seas ect.. The places that you can get stationed in the CG that are out of the US aren't many. Guam, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Hawaii, Alaska.. I know that 2 of those are considered US but they are out of the continental US. Going over-seas is stricktly volunteer!! Unless you are stationed on a 378' cutter and go on a patrol over there which is no longer than 6mnths. But you are thinking of going LE and to my knowledge they don't go over there.. I'll shoot you a PM with my email address and I can answer all your questions..

thanks guys, im mainly looking to go into law enforcement when i get out one day, so if i could do something like that in the military that would be great, but i gotta find out what other jobs they offer.

and sapperstang its not that i dont wanna leave home i do im willing to go anywhere in the country they send me, i just dont wanna be sent into the full out war zone that were fighting right now. i have no problem going somewhere else. i wanna get away from home if anything because im not happy here at all.

im not gonna sugar coat this for you man...so here it goes. if you dont want to get sent off to fight in the war then dont join, you are not needed. you could spend a year in iraq or 30 days or you might not ever have to go at all but you have to be willing to accept the fact that you just might have to go fight and go without saying a word about it, i mean it's the military. since thats out of the way...
...if you do join just think of a job you want to do and go do it. if you want to be a pararescueman go join the air force, if you want to be a seal join the navy if you want to be a sniper go to the marines or army......these are just examples of course BUT every branch of the service has some great jobs and they all have some that suck~! i always hear, and have seen, that the AF quality of life is pretty damn good.....the navy quality of life.....not so hot (thats from personal and present experience).
just reasearch a job you want, find which branch has the best options for that job and go for it. the military these days is more like a corporation.....so ****ing politically correct...but there is on base family housing at most bases for all branches.....shopping (exchange&commisary)...most housing is pet friendly, but that will limit you when it comes time to choose a house. if you are married you get housing allowence to live off base no matter what your pay grade...and if you want to go to school the military pays tuition up to a certain level.....you can practically get a whole degree without paying a penny as long as you pass your classes.
good luck to you in whateveer you decide, i hope i have helped you out at least a little bit.

I have a pretty good question, but not exactly which branch do I need to join or any job specialties.

I don't have perfect vision in one eye, but here are my latest eye exam results:

Acuity without lenses:

Right eye 20/40 Left 20/20 Both 20/20

Acuity with best standard spectacle correction:

Right eye 20/20 Left 20/20 Both 20/20

Field of vision 110 degrees binocular vision Yes

Am I severely limited to certain things I can do in most branches? I was looking at National Guard to be honest.

MPRT H8R yeah i here you about the deployments ive come to terms with that and im willing to go if i have to. not a big deal. i like the security forces with the Air Force and i know they do deploy so im fine with it. if i can get into the coast gaurd i like the ME rating alot as well. i talked to a AF recruiter today and he asked me some basic questions and so far the only thing keeping me out is that im overweight. for my height i have to be 191lbs to get in or 20% body fat. i lift weights also so i know i will never be 191 but as long as i can get the body fat down below 20% i should be ok. and he asked me to get a driving transcript also because i used to get alot of tickets when i was younger cause i was stupid..lol idk how bad my record has to be for that to keep me from getting in but hopefully mine isnt that bad. besides that i think im good. i dont have tattoos , im very healthy, no medical problems, never broken or fractured anything, almost perfect vision i have no problem seeing things and my colorvision is good to. so hopefully this works out for me, i just gotta get myself into shape, ive been holding good to my diet and going to the gym alot. gotta start running alot to, push ups, sit ups, etc.

It seems you understand that you will deploy and probably to a war zone. Doesn't mean you'll cross the wire and fight but you could in an area where there is a threat. Your job in the military is either to kill folks or support those who do. I'm Navy and currently on a one year assignment to Korea and there are plenty of Air Force out here for the same amount of time. Our local AF E-6 has been deployed to Iraq twice, 15 months each time. So long deployments to do happen. I know Navy folks have also deployed with Army units up to 15 months in both Iraq and Afghanistan. I was going to Iraq for 9 months but was diverted to Korea for 12 months. A buddy is being deployed to Africa, Jabudi (however it's spelled) for a year. These are all IA or GSA billets.
