I spent 21 years in the Air Force. Best 21 years of my life. If I was your age, I would do it all over again. I always had a desire to go into medicine. So I joined as a medic. This was in 1971. It afforded me the opportunity to travel all over the world, finish my education and become a Registered Nurse. I retired in 1991 and have worked for the last 18 years as a Surgical/Trauma ICU nurse. Without the Air Force, I would never have been able to do this. Security Police in the Air Force, depending on what area your AFSC is in, can be a boring no end job. That said, I deployed several times with AFSF's in some places you can't imagine. These men and women were smart, well educated and professional individuals. Don't think for one minute that you are dumped in SF's because you can't cut it anywhere else. The best advice I can give you is to talk to a recruiter and by all means do not sign anything until you have read the fine print and fully understand what the recruiter is telling you. You will not get a permanent assignment until you have finished basic training and tech school. Deployment in todays military is just something your going to have to deal with. The world has changed a lot from when I was active duty but not the mission. And yes, the Air Force takes better care of their family's than any other branch of service. JMO
