Need help and advice on possible air filter problem..anybody?

I have a supercharged 2000 GT and my air filter is a fendermount filter that drops down right in front of my front passenger side tire. It's been raining off and on here and I'm real worried about water getting in the filter and the last thing I want right now is hydro lock. Should I be worried? What can I do to protect it? Short ram? Is there a protective cover that I can put over the filter?

I had the Kenne Bell CAI and had the same issue. Although my car doesn't see rain, I was thinking about the servicability hassle. So I took the filter (12") and just crammed it in the bay. Increase in power too.
