However, this weekend, in particular, should hold a special place in the hearts of the SVTP nation. Why? Well, if you haven’t heard, Maryland International Raceway won’t just play host to the traditional heads-up, open-comp, and bracket classes. No, this weekend some of the quickest SVT vehicles on the planet will square off in the SVT Shootout, sponsored by VMP Superchargers.</p><p></p><p>Racers competing in the Terminator vs. GT500 Shootout Class held under the SVT Shootout banner will compete for cash prizes, awards, and contingency from the NMRA. There will be plenty of awards for e.t. categories, attributes, and quickest combinations. Likewise, several heavyweights in the industry—including JLT Performance, Cobra Engineering, Kenne Bell, and, of course, SVTPerformance.com—will be chipping in with prizes for raffles and giveaways.</p><p></p><p>However, we know the bragging rights will be the real draw as pilots of the pioneering Terminators look to upstage their Shelby big brothers. We haven’t seen the full list of participants yet, but you can bet we are going to be on site covering the class over the weekend.</p><p></p><p>What we do know is one of the leading contenders on the GT500 side of the ladder is Brian Devilbiss’ Evolution Performance-constructed 2013 Shelby GT500, known as the Devil’s Reject. It certainly has a stout enough combo to strike fear into even Rob Zombie, thanks to it Kenne Bell-boosted, L&M-built 5.8 engine and an 8-second pedigree.</p><p></p><p>In years past, however, it’s been the Terminators that have posted the lower e.t.’s. We know that SVTP member Jake Conant will be there with his 2003 Cobra’s new combo. The car was already capable of 8-second runs, so it will be exciting to see what the new setup has in store. His sick, silver Cobra has recently made the move to a 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger with John Lund of Lund Racing working his tuning magic on the combo.</p><p></p><p>Of course, those two cars are just scratching the surface of the competitors that squaring off this weekend. There’s no doubt that a contingent of turbocharged racers will carry some insane horsepower onto the sticky Maryland International Raceway surface. The blower-versus-turbo battle will add yet another exciting layer of subtext to the battle of SVT machines. Seeing which chassis and which power-adder/engine combo dominates the race will make things really interesting.</p><p></p><p>As an added bonus, the two fastest stick-shift SVT racers in qualifying the event will square off in a heads-up race. The winner of this battle will take home a custom award and a $750 McLeod Racing product certificate.</p><p></p><p>It should be a lot of fun this weekend, so if you can make the trip out to Maryland, do it.
