problem w/ brakes squeaking

the pads are good but need to be changed but they only squeak when i am in reverse whether are not the brakes are applied are not, more so when they are applied and not a peep in forward gears even with a harsh stop. any thoughts?

Mine do the same -- it is because most of the time you are breaking you wear the pad in ONE direction. This re-arranges the grains and surface of the rotor and pad. Subsequently when you stop in reverse the surfaces do not mesh as well anymore and they squeal to let you know that they are not happy...

Anyway, mine only do this at VERY low speed... Like rolling backwards at a light...

exactly but mine just started after 22k miles, so maybe i will change them and see what happens but thanks for the insight.
