Uh, this isn't a new law in VA. VA has been 20+ over the limit is reckless driving by speed. It is a Class 1 Misdemeanor. It is punishable by a MAXIMUM of 12 months in jail, and/or up to $2500 in fines along with a loss of privilige to drive in VA for up to 12 months. VA cannot suspend your privilige in PA to drive. BUT, check with PA to make sure their DMV will not suspend you. I would recommend 1st, get a speedometer calibration. If it is off it the right direction, it can help you. 2ndly, pay up for a lawyer, and show up for court. You can ask for a continuance on the 1st hearing. The judge will ask why you want the continuance. Just tell him you want to retain counsel and get a calibration. Good luck OP.
