A look inside the Shelby GT350’s Tremec six-speed manual transmission
By Steve Turner

When it was announced that the new Shelby GT350 would forgo the familiar Tremec TR-6060 transmission in favor of a new gearbox, our interests were piqued. The familiar 6060 six-speed manual has proven a robust, reliable gearbox for the big-power brute that is the Shelby GT500—and even more so in aftermarket Magnum trim. However, the new Shelby is a different animal. It trades brute force for high-rpm corner carving, and reducing weight was a prime directive for the Ford Performance engineers.

I'm surprised nobody had commented on this yet. Great info. It sounds promising in this application. My only thought is that I wish they'd opted for a ~3.0:1 first gear ratio. It would have closed the gap with second and allowed a 0-60 pull in first.

You forgot about the 8250RPM red line. This thing might pull more than 60 in first.

Great unit. Should perform excellently.

He's very accurate about gearing.

27.5" tire (305/35/19)
3.73 rear gear set
3.253 1st (55mph @ 8250rpm)
1.000 5th (182mph @ 8250rpm)
0.629 6th (280mph @ 8250rpms)

A more realistic 6th gear value is

0.629 6th (200mph @ 5750rpms)

If the gt350 produces the claimed 520hp, I could easily believe it's torque and power curves would still offer about 440hp at 5750rpms. That would be enough propulsion to reach 190mph assuming a .34 c/d with about 25ft^2 of frontal area. Mind you it's early so my maths may be off by a wide margin.

The 2006 corvette coupes could reach 187mph with a .30 c/d (iirc) on 19ft^2 area with just 400hp.

I'm going to guess the gt350 stats:

0-60: 3.7 (super sticky tires will yield sub 1.85 60fts stock IMO but needing to shift will end it's lead vs a stock trinity)

1/4: 11.9@121+

190 top speed.

My guess would be a lower top speed due to the two piece steel shaft that Ford plans on using.

5th gear is 1:1. that's something I'll have to get used to.
