If you look at the history of Florida, it has gone from a solid blue state(60s- early 90's) to mixed(2000's) to red 2016+. The push to Red was started with the election of Jeb! in 1999. 5 years prior the State legislature went red with the last Dem Governor. Outside of Bill Nelson, who was a "moderate" Democrat senator, the state had been slowly turning red state wide outside of the larger metro areas such as PBC-Broward-Miami Dade, Orange and Hillsborough. Before the rapid influx from other states, Florida had a Republican governor, both senate seats and had a majority of House seats. Of course with COVID we've had a good growth spurt with conservatives coming here for the "freedom" and tax breaks this state provides. But based off the prior elections I disagree that Florida was ever at risk of going back to blue and off the deep end like California. It's been 25 years since the last Dem Governor.
