I'm trying to upgrade everything on my 2011 Mustang GT that I think will break prior to eventually installing a Procharger cog drive F1 kit. From the research I've been doing it looks like one of the weakest links on our cars is the transmission so I am looking at doing a Tremec 6060 conversion from a GT500.
Does anyone know if the engine placement is the same between the GT and GT500? Im hoping this will be a basically bolt in swap and be able to use an off the shelf aftermarket GT500 driveshaft.
Gear ratios should also be more advantageous for drag racing and fuel economy. I feel the first is way too steep in the Getrag that comes in the car stock especially with 3.73s in the rear end. I find myself starting out in 2nd during everyday driving. Using a 2010-11 GT500 transmission would allow me to change over to 4.10 gears in the rear end and still cruise at a lower RPM in 6th thanks to the .50 ratio.
Comparison of gear ratios:
2011 GT/ 07-09 GT500/ 10-11 GT500
1st 3.66/ 2.97/ 2.97
2nd 2.43/ 1.78/ 1.78
3rd 1.69/ 1.30/ 1.30
4th 1.32/ 1.00/ 1.00
5th 1.00/ 0.80/ 0.74
6th 0.65/ 0.63/ 0.50
