Does anyone else have problems rowing through the gears when it's cold out? My 2nd and 3rd gears are very tight when it's cold out. Sometimes it seems like it doesn't want to go in gear. My clutch feels kind of spongy when it's like that too. Anyone else have similar problems/difficulties?

What type of fulid do you have in your tranny? I ran mobil1 syn. and after driving the car for 5 miles it seemed to losen up some. I live in Michigan though????Spongy clutch feeling could be from mosture getting to the disk itself. I know I'm not the best speller but you get the point. Don't let the name fool ya, I have a 95 gt also that has been converted to a 5 speed. Do you have adjustable clutch, quadarnt,or cable?

No, but for some damn reason my coolant light is coming on when the car is cold...after it warms up it goes out.

I now have 53K miles and the tranny fluid is still stock. All tranny components to my knowledge are stock. (I bought the car last Jan. with 38K miles). After driving a few miles it seems to loosen up. I'm just worried since it really hasn't gotten too cold yet, just 20's and 30's. I'm wondering how bad it will get when the temp really gets cold, like -15.

hillie, I have the same problem! My coolant is fine, and it's always full. The engine never overheats. The light comes on and stays on for a minute, then a quick rev usually gets rid of it. Only does it when it's below 45 degrees along with the "moosing" noise.

I had this same problem with my company car (98 Ford Escort). I took it to the mechanic and he just unplugged the sensor that was on the overflow tank. I can't remember what he said it was cause from (bad sensor??) but I remember him saying most Fords did it.

Yes, synthetic tranny fluid with some friction modifier will decrease if not eliminate the problem.

Here is a write up from Contour.org about this. Obviously it's specifically for the Contours but most other Fords have the same problem. http://www.contour.org/FAQ/FAQ.cgi?s=probs&display=shifter

The light comes on and stays on for me, once the car warms up, if I shut it off and start it again it doesn't come on.

My "check engine" light came on last week and stayed on a few days. Didn't make me very happy. The car seemed to run fine and the light went out two days ago and has stayed off. Hopefully it was just because of the missing cats.
