I did two 2.5 inch cut outs for a total of 5 inches. Its more efficient than 1 single imo but two each his own. It will not be loud at all. In fact, with the dumps open and cruising it will much more quiet than most NA cars with any sort of exhaust. It won't wake the dead at all! Especially if u place them directly under the car like I did. If u have a side exit exhaust it will be much louder. My buddy just did a side exit exhaust with a 5 inch electric cut out. Pretty dope looking but I try to keep mine as unsuspecting as possible so I had it put underneath. Plus ur passenger, if u have one, doesn't have to eat exhaust fumes every time u smash the pedal lol. The way it sounds is basically gonna be dictated by ur mufflers. Turbo set ups quiet things down tremediously cause the Turbo acts as muffler sort of. With the dumps closed the mufflers I have actually also sound really good with the dumps closed so either way they sound great. But I will say when in WOT the open dumps are REALLY loud but cruising but no louder than an NA setup with a decent exhaust. In fact, when I cruise I rarely even close the dumps cause its just about the same sound closed or open but I am an audiophile and am currently upgrading my current stereo sound system to a competition set up with SQ components so closing the dumps will make things a little better. I found that the quietest muffler was also the heaviest and the MBRP seemed to be the lightest. I mean shit, a good quiet muffler can weigh 15 lbs and most need two of em. The MBRP only weighs 5 lbs. My car has these and nothing sounds better imo MBRP Universal 4" Quiet Tone Muffler Its rated here as #1 https://soundproofnation.com/quietest-performance-muffler/
