I believe Certain cars, have certain attitudes that you can instantly look at them, and say...Thats a (insert car here). For example, you can pretty much look at any Mustang, Camaro, and Corvette, of any year and say. Yeah, thats a Corvette etc.... You dont have to see any badges or anything. You could be 25 yards away and pick it out of the crowd. Other notables, are the VW Bug and the Z Cars. You couldnt very well redesign the bug, make it a long sedan car, and slap on the name "BUG" and expect people to buy into it. It just wouldnt be a BUG without that bubble shape.
Take the Mustang Characteristics,,,Tri-taillights, long hood, short bubbly topdeck. C-Pillar, and that dual exhaust(GT, Cobra Models). Pretty Much every year has incorportated these things. Now with this new Mustang coming out, i dont buy into this crap some people complain about, that its toooo Retro. Yeah i know everyone has their opnions but their reasoning is skewed. Its the C-pillar, that top scoop, those Large Tri-tail lights, that make it what it is,,,A Mustang. The correct term that should be used is Heritage! They took all those concepts, and modernized the heritage elements, and gave it that 21st Century look, that says, this is a Mustang, but it aint your grandfathers.
How many of you would respect Corvettes, if for the New C6 designers said screw our past, lets ummm, make a 4 door, BMW like car, slap the Corvette name on it. But hey we are going into the future and not looking to our past. The same thing can be said for the Mustang. You can not ignore Heritage, and come up with something that has nothing to do with Mustang! Then you would have exactly want Pontiac came out with,An Australian Car(Nothing knocking the Monaro, may be a great car), that really has NOTHING to do with the Original GTO, except the name. Will it sell,,,,undoubtly. Its a very nice Interior,,for a Grand Prix,,,errr um GTO. Will it be something to remember,,,,hardly. Hopefully Pontiac, will get it right in a few years,,and make it look and perform, how a GTO should.
So to all the Naysayers, who think its too Retro. Heres an idea,,,,get your Mustang, Remove the Pony from the front, buy a Lancer and you stick it on the front, and say. See Ford gave the Stang a New Look, AWD, and 4cyl Turbo Engine.. Yeahhhh FUTURE!!!!

The late fox mustangs looked nothing like the mustangs of previous years, and look how popular they were. I love the look of the new mustang, but I believe they are taking too many cues from the past mustangs.
I think they should be more creative and modern with the styling, while keeping some cues...such as long hood, C-scoops, or "hockey sticks" as some people call them, short deck, dual exhaust, and some other things... but sorry, the front end just doesent do it for me. It looks almost exactly like an older mustang front end.

I look at the Fox body, and all i can think of is, that damn thing looked like an escort back then. They were popular because they were out so long, and the engine performed very well.
