will 275/40/17's fit on a 17x8 inch rim?

It will fit, but it will bulge a little bit. I did it on my old GT rims and never regretted it.

my 2001 cobra had Kumho 275/40 on the factory 17x8 wheels. i personally don't like the bulge. The wheels and tires are somewhere in my house, i will see if i can get my camera to work and get a picture

Your car will handle like crap. The tires will roll over when pushed hard through corners and the rear will feel loose. You need at least 9" wheels if you want the car to handle.
