Alright so your s197’s trans is becoming too unbearable for you, you’ve busted a gear or two, it's become so noisy your beautiful fire breathing Stang now sounds like a factory forklift when changing gears. Now you happen to get your hands or find a too good to be true deal on one of the S550’s mt82. But your major concern is ‘Will it work with my S197?’. Well fasten your seat belts crowd mongers, I'm about to walk you through getting that 3 legged mt82 into your untamed monsters.
Here's our mighty but still junky 2017 GT Mt82 with 18k miles, shagged this one up from a local who missed the crowds and hit a wall instead, the wall won. (jk)
First get the shifter arm out of the way, top bolt is 10mm, bottom arm bolt is 13mm.
-Next, get the s550 clutch line out of the way, and discard or sell it. Its too short for your s197. Our s197s got the longer ones (chick magnet)
-Now if you still have the rubber output shaft bushing attached, unbolt and discard it, 18mm bolts. I believe that was fords way of tricking some of the cluck noise...don't even think about it, that rubber won't work with your s197.
Get the flange stud bolt removed, that's a 30mm stud bolt, and make sure to get a 30mm deep socket to clear the bolt stud.
Using a 3 Jaw 5 or 7 Ton puller, and any puller base (like an impact socket or the stud bolt you removed).
Here's the new flange kit for the S197 setup.
11-14 MT82 Flange BR3Z-7089-A
11-14 MT82 Flange dust shield: BR3Z-7F273-A
11-14 MT82 Flange bolt: BR3Z-7L013-B
Place the flange aligned with the transmission output shaft and with a dead blow hammer or mallet lightly and carefully knock the flange into place.
Then using the previously removed stud bolt fasten the new flange all the way to the base of the output shaft, torquing to 148ft lbs.
Remove the stud bolt, then install the 11-14 flange bolt and torque to 133ft lbs. Here's our mighty but still junky 2017 GT Mt82 with 18k miles, shagged this one up from a local who missed the crowds and hit a wall instead, the wall won. (jk)
