The boss 290/260 intake will only fit on a 5.4 block with 99'+Cobra/mach1/marauder/aviator heads.

It actually isn't too bad at all.
I have developed a kit on my own to make it a lot easier.
I used to work for Ford Development,
and I guess the "bug" still is there.

Absolutely correct.
It will also fit navi heads, but there is a port mismatch.
Navi intake ports are larger than 99-01 or 03-04 heads.
It will not fit FGT/00"R"/Shelby heads.
