Any Go-Kart experts/hobbyists with advice?

I'm looking into possibly getting a couple of carts to buzz around the neighborhood with the wife, but I don't know much about them. I'm not much of an engineer, so building my own is out. I don't want the kind with the cage. more of the open wheel variety. I'd like something that is definitely fast and will snap your head back a little, but not something so retarded that I'll kill myself when I floor it and pull a Peter Pan into some shrubbery. I saw this one on Ebay, but it looks a tad too serious for a first timer:

If you buy that, you will probably drive around the block once, then sell it after shitting yourself on that first ride. From what I remember, that thing can top 80mph.
