Bridging the fender gap...wrong way?

Hey guys,

On my 2014 GT I have Steeda Sports + Koni STR.Ts and there's always been about a 3/4-1" difference in gap between the front & rear (rear having the larger gap). Now that I've added some addiitonal weight on the front with the Roush TVS, that gap is even more pronounced and when I do wheels and tires, I'm wondering if I can play around with sizing to bridge some of that gap...just not sure the consequences or if this is the right way to go about it:

Right now I'm liking the Forgestar CF5V and thinking of this tire combo:

Front: 275/35/19 Nitto NT05 = 26.65 overall diameter
Rear: 305/35/19 Nitto NT05R = 27.44 overall diameter

Basically, I'm just trying to decrease sidewall in the front while increasing it in the rear. In theory, I should gain almost an inch here.

Should I be okay with this setup? I remember reading some threads about if too great of a difference, it may throw off the advancetrac system...

Keep in mind you are talking about diameter. The wheel gap in the rear will only be affected by the change in radius. Adding a 1" taller tire will close your fender gap by 0.5".

I knew it wouldn't be that easy. Good points guys.

Can anyone recommend some springs? I don't want to be "slammed" hence the steeda sports... But the gap differences are a bit much...

Yes, get the BMR SP009 springs.

I am currently running a 255/40-19 and 275/40-19 setup on my car with these. I don't have a picture to post at the moments as I am still editing a fresh batch from last night, but I will post one later.

Also, I would recommend running a 285/35 on the front if you have a 9.5" or larger width wheel. If you are running a 9", I would leave the 255/40 on the front for clearance purposes.

Here is a pic of my car on BMR springs. I thought it would be level, but didn't turn out that way for me.

The BMR springs leave you around a 1/4" rake after the springs have settled. I like that, though, as a muscle car should have a rake to it's stance.

Meh, no rake crew checking in here. Thats why I went with coilovers. I have a tiny bit of rake but I really cant lower my rear end anymore.

OP just put some sportlines on the car and call it a day.

funny you mentioned that.... I plan to run a 275/35r20 up front in a NT05 and a 315/35R20 NT05r when I pick up some forgestars next month. I was looking at pics of cars that ran a 275/40r20 to match the rear height and it looked dubbed out....but the 275/35 and 315/35 look pretty good together.

315/35r20 NT05r are 28.74 OD
275/35r20 NTO5 are 27.56 OD

I also plan to run it with the adjustable eibach coilovers so I can set the stance with them.

What sizes are you planning to go with on the CF5V's? I will do my best to point you in the right direction. This is all I do ALL day is calculate the wheel/tire setups for these cars :-D

But like others have already said, lowering is going to be the other piece of the pie. My suggestion is to always get your wheels/tires installed first and then judge your available space. With an aggressive setup, it is very easy to over estimate the drop and end up with rubbing.

+1

This is probably our #1 most popular setup. The CF5V is only available in 19" but this is exactly what I recommend with F: 20x9 or 20x9.5 or 20x10 / R: 20x11 setups.

You can always PM or email me if you have specific questions.

To the OP,

Below is a picture of my car on BMR SP009 springs. My rear tire is a 275/40/19 measureing 27.7" OD, front are 255/40/19 measuring 27.0" OD. The gap between the tires and wheel well should give you an idea of how yours will possibly look, but maybe a tad lower to the ground due to the shorter tires.
