Use RTV on all the "pivot" points.
Also one thing the OP does not do that I did is the side clips that secure the vent to the pivot points in the bezel were loose. I put RTV all over them too. I may have used a little to much RTV because the side to side adjustment is stuck. But I'm not touching it. The car is so quiet I don't want to risk the rattle again!!! Its seriously like a new car.
This is awesome because my vent rattle has been getting on my nerves. But I'm confused. I can't see where the RTV sealant is supposed to go. I don't see it in the pic. Can I get some help?
Hmm that twizzler stuff you're showing looks to me like the stuff you use to install window screens. Maybe this is someone elses way to mod it to stop the rattle?

Can someone put arrows on all the spots I need to put the rtv on.
Ford was apparently clued in to this since there is a TSB on it (04-05-03):

The difference is, of course, that you have to shell out a bit of $$$ to do the "upgrade", rather than slap on some RTV.
$25 each through Tousley...
